I read somewhere on this site someone was having a problem posting a picture. Are you still allowed to post pics here? If so, I'd love to see any of your guys and gals 2006 2500HD photos and if possible the MRSP and price you paid at the dealer. Thanks!

That seems a little pricey? Nice truck but very expensive compared to what I've seen in my search the past 2 weeks for similar truck. MSRP was 43k :(

We bought it after Chevy's MSRP price rollback. Original MSRP, with a rediculous "incentive" was $48,370.00. Then, after the price Rollback, it was repriced at $46,170. We added the nurf bars, locally priced at $495, Line-X, over the rails at the dealer's cost of $350, they had their body shop switch our Fold-A-Cover over to the new rig for free (they did a flawless job) and the Oregon Vehicle Title and four-years of licensing cost $218.

As I said, the price we paid, out-the-door was $43,889; deducting all of the goodies, we paid $42,826 and we got out Fold-A-Cover transferred. That is a fabulous price for a D/A LBZ 4WD CC/SB in LT-3. Are you sure that you are looking at the D/As in 4WD with the LT-3 package? Literally all of the D/A 4WD LT-3s here in the Portland, Oregon area start in the 46K+ range (new MSRP).

Obviously, those with the reat entertainment system and the sunroof are 48K-ish. We have no rugrats and I hunt where it is very icy/snowy, so we did not want the sunroof. Our truck, as we bought it, was absolutely perfect for us. And the price was very, very right, so we bought it.

That is a sweet lookin ride right there, just does not look like a short bed in that pic.  Nice truck!

When in doubt look at the distance from the rear tire to the front of the bed, then the rear tire to the back of the bed. If they look close to the same then it's a shortbed, if looks longer in front of the tire vs. behind the tire then it's a longbed.

Man I'm jealous, I want those new tow mirrors :(

Longbed

Linda,

I love this rig more each day and I'm delighted that you like it, too. The Duramax's very subtle "idle chatter" and the Allison six-speed's seamless shifts just oooooze the promise of real power. Obviously, by now, I've been over every square inch of the truck and it is perfect. In driving it, there are absolutely no issues; no rattles, no squeeks, nothing.

The odometer currently reads slightly under 500 miles and the DIC, which was exactly on with the first tank of fuel, says my fuel mileage is 16.7 mpg. And I've been told that it will only get better from there.

My previous truck was a 2003 Silverado Z-71 LT EC/SB 3.73-5.3. It was an excellent truck, but I hated running the engine at 4,500+ RPMs just to climb our Oregon mountains and the brakes were uninspiringly squishey. Also, the tranny never seemed to know what it was doing and the frame/bed made weird noises when running over any but the smoothest roads. The Z-71 was a nice rig, but in my estimation it was basically an automobile, dressed in "drag" as a truck.

Our new 2500HD D/A is a "real truck," the engine just loafs most of the time, the Allison is fantastic and it takes any kind of road in a much smoother fashion than our old Z-71.

Interestingly, the Duramax/Allison was not a hard sell to my wife of 42 years, Karen. She hates loud (rattle, rattle, rattle) diesels and she hates the smell. The D/A is really not any noisier than the 8.1 liter gas engine I had in my 2002-2500 Avalanche which I would have kept if it hadn't been totally rear-end blind. And, for some reason, neither one of us particularly object to the exhaust smell of our new rig. Hey, any time Karen is happy, I'm very, very HAPPY. :(

Loving this rig.

GMC2500sle....Mike,

The new mirrors are a total wonder; best of breed, I believe. I was going to wait until 2007, but I was kind of worried about issues with the new body style.

Then, I noticed that GM had updated the Duramax with the LBZ, giving 360 HP and 650 ft/lbs of torque, and added the six-speed Allison 1000, with the excellent manual over-ride feature. Of course, I was LOST when I saw the new mirrors.

Basically, what I was looking at was the running gear of the 2007s, including perfect mirrors and the reliability of a six year old body style. Nothing the matter with that. Yeah, it will be out of date in a few months, but I'm 63 years old and I care not a crap about style; if it works, it's good.

I would have prefered having a GMC, but all of our local dealers are schmucks and their service is even worse. My local Chevy dealer (less than a mile from our home) is a square-shooter and their service department is run like an old Mom & Pop garage. All of the service writers are "lifers" and they are so honest that I would trust my life to any of the guys. Yes, they are up to snuff on diesel and the fact that they are not going to cheat me in any way makes my D/A even better.

My friend, the new mirrors are larger than Ford's and better. I absolutely love them for just everyday driving.....I can see everything. I have not hooked up out trailer yet, it's a twenty-two foot Arctic Fox, but I have absolutely no doubt that they will be vastly superior to the silly plastic "shove on" mirrors I used over the Z-71's factory mirrors.

Interestingly, I have not found the new GM mirrors, as large as they are, getting in my way in urban driving, here in Portland, Oregon. They are in just the perfect place and do not obscure my view of anything.

In case you are interested, they are heated, electrically controlled just like the standard mirrors, and they have the red arrow turn indicator. So far, I've used the lower, convex section mostly for spotting curbs when backing up.

Super mirrors, my friend.

Hi Steve or should I say Hi Neighbor.

I too live in the Milwaukie area and have to say that is a great looking truck you have there. I think I may have pasted you this weekend here on the road since I have not seen many of trucks with the new mirros floating around. And I pay attention to stupid things like that. Hope you have better luck then I did with Town & Country they only touched my DMAX once and where added to the list of people that will never touch my truck again.

Looks Great!

Ya, go figure, two features that I would have waited for if I would have known they were coming....new tow mirror style and 6 speed Ally. Extra overdrive would have really been nice to get my rat motor down in rpms at highway speed. The trade in value of my old truck and 0% financing was hard to beat though at the time.

I have no intention of buying another truck for a loooong time. Guess I'll just have to live with what I got. I figure sooner or later the tow mirrors will start popping up on ebay at prices I can afford  . Man, having a kid sure drains the pocketbook :( . No regrets though, just gotta make sure he's a chevy fan when he grows up.

David,

Hi neighbor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll bet it was my rig that you saw. I've not seen another on the road and, like you, I LOOK.

Actually, it has kind of amazed me how "low key" GM has been on the mirrors. There is one crappy photo of them in their truck brochure and it would be easy to miss the mirrors because you are looking at the edge-wise boat on a trailer.

Interestingly, I've only had the finest of service at Town & Country. Curtis Rice is the service manager and he runs a happy, educated crew. My service advisor is Warren Moore, the old, old dude who is on oxygen. I've worked with Warren for over ten years and have been delighted with their honesty and quality of service.

BUT....it takes only one bad deal to ruin all of that. And I have no doubt that you ran into that one first. That is a shame and I apologize for them.

Hey Mike,

I'll bet that you're right, the camper mirrors will show up on E-Bay very soon. No doubt that they will just plug right in and make an easy install.

I think the sixth-gear is the top one, sort of an extra overdrive. I have a friend who bought an early 2006 and he also wishes he had the sixth gear and he absolutely lusts after the ability to shift manually. Actually, I think that, at least at this point, the Allison is prolly smarter than I am, so I'll leave the manual over-ride alone.....for now.

My friend, no matter what you buy, there is always something in the future that is stronger, bigger, better and less expensive. If we wait for that magic thing to come along, we end up spending our life waiting. Hey, enjoy what you have, be happy with it and love it.

This is true in my case as well. Within the next several months, the 2007s will burst upon the scene. With the total change in body style, I'll be suddenly driving the Old Style. Personally, that's OK with me; I have white hair, a white moustache. My truck and I can be "Classic" together. :(
