Service Tire Monitor with a twist

Hi all,

I'm a new member, with an odd problem. I just bought an '06 Silverado with P/Windows and Locks, but without keyless entry. I bought a 'Kit' on E-Bay consisting of the keyless entry OEM PDM module for the passenger door. I installed it, and the included keyfobs worked great. The only problem is that now the 'Service Tire Monitor' light comes on in my DIC display. I don't have a Tire Pressure Monitor System (as far as I know) and do not have the expanded DIC with the steering wheel controls. Is there any way to clear this message from my system?

I believe the remote keyless entry (RKE) system and the tire pressure system (TPS) share a common receiver. Both systems rely on wireless signals from the components: TPS gets signals from all 4 tires and RKE gets signals from the transmitter.

I would suspect the PDM module you installed contains the programming/hardware for the TPS. If that's true, then since the TPS is not receiving signals from anything and any other required hardware would be missing, the PDM is sending an error code up to the DIC and the result is the message you see.

As to fixing it ... not sure. If everything I wrote above is proven true, the only way to fix it would be to reprogram the PDM if possible. You would need a dealer to do this. They would have to obtain a Calibration number from GM - so the whole process would involve cash out of your pocket.

Unless something changed in '06 that I'm not aware of, Silverado's aren't even available with tire pressure monitoring. That's a tahoe/suburban option.

 

My guess is that you got a PDM for a tahoe/suburban or it was pre-programmed for a tahoe/sub. You can't just throw these modules in a vehicle. They need to be programmed for the vehicle on which they're installed, after they're installed. So, taking it to a dealer and asking them to recalibrate the door modules may fix your problem.
