What do I need to do to operate trailer brakes?  I have the HD towing package but no adapters for anything.

Thanks

Mark,  if your trailer has "surge" brakes you are OK.  You'll need to get a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter and all your lights should work fine.

If your trailer has electric brakes then you'll need to go and buy a good elctronic brake controller.  I prefer Tekonsha but I guess you can get what you want.

If you have the towing package, there should be a wiring harness in the glove box.  This will plug into the second hole from the left on the top row of the fuse block behind the E-brake peddle.  Wire this into your new electronic brake controller.  Don't go color for color or you'll screw it up...  all wires should be labeled and it is pretty straight forward.

Finally take the Jumbo fuse thatwas supplied with the harness in your glove box and stick it in the electrical center under the hood over the wheel well on the driver side.  I think it goes in the "stud 1" location but it could be "stud 2" (put it in the empty one).

Taadaa  you're done!!!

UHAUL!!!!! A Uhaul center can hook you up, not a place that rents the trucks, thats just a dealer, you need one of those centers that rents trailers and sales boxes and trailer hitches and supplies. They have a wide selection of controlers made for Uhaul by top makers like the one metnioned above! They also have the plug that plugs in under the dash and it is color for color. I just went through all that with mine plus some other stuff since I didnt have the HD wiring package but I do Now! :D  I got the HD package free when I bought my Silverado but had to do the install myself. The brake controller I got at Uhaul is made by Accu Trac I think but they do have a lot of other brands. My controller was $59 and my dealer gave me the plug that goes in under the dash, but Uhaul has it for $9.95!

I know this is a silly question, but, have you checked under dash to be sure adapter is not already installed?
