My I Hate Street Scene Rant

On Febuary 8th I placed a very pricey order with www.cheaptruckparts.com for my Gibson exhaust, Sir Michaels roll pan and a Street Scene grill shell with bowtie. Within the next couple of weeks the exhaust and roll pan arrived but no grill shell. I figured no big deal, it'll come.

By the first week of March it still hadn't arrived so I figured I'd call and see what was up. I wasn't able to get through to the site I ordered from because of the time difference, so I called Street Scene directly. The guy I spoke with said he couldn't look up my order since it came through a third party, but he asked what I ordered. I told him the grill shell and he said oh those are on back order and should be shipping in a couple of weeks. Fair enough.

Well, by late March, still no grill. This time I got through to the site I ordered from. They called Street Scene and then called me back. They said that Street Scene had messed up and lost the order, but to make up for it was going to ship the product directly from where they are manufactured (whereever that is) as to expedite the delivery and that it should be a couple of weeks. Fair enough.

Here we are a month later, still no product. So, I called the site I ordered from again. Once again I waited while they called Street Scene. The new story is that the grills are still on back order and aren't estimated to ship for another three weeks. WTF?

Now, I'm a car guy and I have waited for parts before. Once I waited 11 months for a set of custom made wheels from Japan. But, this just infuriates me. I realize Street Scene probably doesn't sell a million of these things a year, but how do they expect to sell any when it takes four or five months to get one? I was under the impression they were the manufacturer of this part. How hard is this, customer orders, you make, you ship?

I don't know, am I out of line here? Obviously, I've cancelled the order. I'll just try to find a Tahoe Z71 grill shell. Anyone else have these kind of problems with Street Scene?

I'm not trying to highjack your thread, but how do you like the Gibson Exhaust? Any of the problems that folks are having with losing torque like the Flowmaster? Also, is it the Super Truck exhaust? How does it sound?

Thanks

Cody

No worries Cody, wasn't much of a thread, just a rant. As for the exhaust I love it. (It is the Super Truck.) It has a very nice rumble due to the length of the piping, but the muffler keeps the droning to a minimum. It was a cinch to install and the fitment was quite good. I got the stainless system so hopefully I don't have to worry about any rusting and so far that is the case. But, I've only had it on for a few months so can't say for sure. Mostly I love that it is a unique system that you don't see on every truck. For me the price for what you get is a real bargain and at this point I can say I would definitely buy another Gibson system for my next truck.

Oh and no I did not feel a great loss of torque. It feels as if this system was designed to add greater flow and decibel level without reducing too much back pressure. In the past I had a Mustang 5.0 that I added a catless H-pipe and tubular mufflers to and the loss of torque was immediately apparent. I felt nothing like this with the Gibson.

This is actually pretty interesting for two reasons. I'm lookin at buying bothe the gibson super truck exhaust for my 96 5.0 z71, and a street scene grill. About the grill, that's a bummer about them throwin you around like that. I'm hoping that with my truck being a little older i wont have that problem. But the gibson exhaust is what really caught my attention. How loud is the outside noise. I'm not to worried about interior sound, i just don't want to get pulled over for it being too loud (modified mufflers are illegal here. Most cops don't enforce it unless it's extremely loud). I like the price and the exit location, im just looking for how loud it is approx. and how it sounds. And did you notice any mpg gains? :happysad:

Definitely, best of luck to you with getting the grill. The product definitely looks quality, I'm just unhappy with the time it's taken the company to produce it.

As for the exhaust I don't think the exhaust is excessively loud by any means. I mean with all those new Dodge's out there any Chevy sounds pretty tame. I've never had a cop look twice at me and I am technically in violation of Hawaii law since I have not gotten a reconstruction permit. Anyhow, I don't know your local laws, but I would guess you'll be fine. The older 5.0 and 5.7 engines seem to have been much quieter. All my friends that had them ran straight pipes back from the cats and they were loud, but not too loud. So, I would guess with the Gibson system you'll be just fine. Best of luck with both.
