6" Lift Questions

Recommended Posts

My friend wants to sell me a Procomp 6” suspension lift for my ’00 Z-71. My truck has almost 120K miles on it. Is it safe to lift it with that many miles? I don’t ever take it “offroad”. Also, I was looking at getting 18” x 10” rims (if there is such a thing), but I’m not sure what backspacing I’ll need. I want to run 35” x 12.5” BFGs. Am I going to run into any problems doing this? I plan to get new gears later on. Thanks for the help.

I say do it. Its not cheap so you would have to justify the cost and how long you plan on keeping it. With 120k just make sure you check/replace your ball joints, tie rod ends etc...while you are under there or who ever installs the lift.

with the 6" procomp that will be enough for the 35 x 12.50's especially if you stick with only 10" wide wheel. 4.5" back spacing would be good and I believe is the norm for most 18" wheels.

I have 4.10 gears and it so makes a difference when you get larger tires. 120k on year 2000 CHEVY is just breakin it in :driving: .

good luck.

If you want to go thru with this, I would replace all the ball joints while you ahve it apart because at that mileage they are worn some now and will die quickly with that lift and tires. Expect short ball joint lif even with new ones (about 30K give or take) and alligment issues and trie wear issues as well. Sorry to be the bringer of gloom here but the front end is not that strong and was never designed for that kind os stress and a 2500 is a better platform for that kind of lift and tires. Do not forget to regear truck to to atleast a 4.56 or 4.88 if you want tranny to last too given its age or you will be replacing it too soon.
