Anti-lock brake fix

The Anti-lock warning light in my 96 Z71 came on about 2 weeks after I replaced the rear drum brakes, including the brake cylinders.  I bled the rear brakes and all worked well until recently.  My Actron code reader is not picking up any ABS codes on the OBD2 box and I am at a loss to what it could be.  Does anyone have a suggestion other than taking it to the dealer who will likely consume my next paycheck? Thanks in advance.

The dealer is the only way to get the codes.

OBD2 code readers are only able to pull codes out of the PCM.

I've seen code readers for ABS computers, but I think the cheapest one was $800 or so.

These newer electronics were not meant to be user-serviceable.  I still remember when the electronics were more DIY friendly and you could jumper 2 pins and make the computer blink out the error codes.  Not anymore, now it's all dealer-only.

I had a similiar problem with my 98 Yukon. The dealer replaced the EBCM and thought they fixed it. After driving off the lot the ABS light turned back on. I turned around and dragged both the service advisor and the technician to look at my truck. They hooked up the scanner, no codes were present. I shooved both of these guys into my truck for a drive to show them the light coming on. In addition the technician left the scanner attached to read codes during the drive. Sure enough the light comes on and the scanner turns off(???). They agreed that the EBCM was not related to the light turning on. They keptit for three days before diagnosing it as a short within the ignition wiring connection(within the steering column). They replace the header and problem disappeared.

Thanks guys.  I was afraid that it might come to a dealer visit; it sounds like the code information is being kept as a trade secret......

Our local Autozone is advertising code reading services for free.  They may be able to pick it up.  Definately worth a try.
