I am considering buying a 2007 Yukon or Tahoe but have some serious concerns about the 4spd auto trans, I have had several GM trucks and all have had some sort of trans problem with the auto 4-spd .My question is -----Have there been any improvements done to the 4spd or is it the same trans that has been prone to problems all these years. If so is GM planning on replacing these trannys with the 6spd offered in the 2007 Denali. Is the 6sp so much better that I should get the Denali instead of the Yukon or Tahoe. Any guidance will be appreciated.

The new body Escalade has the larger displacement engine and the NEW 6L80E 6 speed tranny. The "80" series (think 4L80E) which is designed for higher H.P. & torque applications.

the '07 1500 series Yukons, Tahoe, Suburban do not have the 6 speed trannys yet. They still have the 4L60E (4 speed). Somewhere down the road 2 years perhaps sooner the 6L60E (6 speed) will be ready for the 1500 series trucks.

from what I have been reading the new generations trannys 6L60E & 6L80E share very little with the current 4L60E & 4L80E trannys.

I am lookin for information on the improvements (other than the 6 speeds) that these next generation trannys have.
