86 GMC engine swap...

Hi everyone, great forums, glad to be here.

Well, my story is, a guy I work with has an 86 gmc high sierra, in really good shape, only one small rust spot about 1' square on bottom rear of cab. The rest is really good. Truck has 133k miles, original owner, he really took care of this truck.

He's asking $2k for it, which is an absolute steal

Anyway, I have a good friend who is also into the 85-87 silverado/gmc trucks, and has a lot of experience in tricking them out. He has an '05 impala ss motor with very low miles (500!) he is wanting to sell, he just got rid of his 87 silverado (ls1 w/ whipple charger) so he's trying to sell the impala motor for some cash.

Anyway, I was just wondering and interested in comments about taking on this engine swap.

Not sure if I am going to take the plunge, but wanted some info on it, what problems should I look for, things like that. I don't want to get stuck with the motor and have to spend $5k in extra stuff. The motor comes complete w/ computer, but I know I would have to buy a custom harness. And I would like to keep the injection.

Any info or links would be great.

The 05 Impala is front wheel drive - if it is the 5.3 you will need to be sure that the Impala version of the 5.3 will bolt up to a rear wheel drive auto trans.
