flasher relay clicking

I recently removed the aftermarket trailer brake controller from my 00 denali and ever since that. i have been haveing a flasher that clicks. its not consistant and doesnt do it all the time. i cant figure this one out. i do think that i seen a small amount of smoke come from the sterring colum a couple of days ago but i removed the colom cover and no wires looked damaged at all. i cant seem to duplicate the conditions i move the steering wheel and it sometimes does it and sometimes it doesnt??? wtf is going on///

Signal switch is shorted, intermittently giving power to the flasher. wiggle the signal switch and the clicking should increase or stop.

sam exact thing happened to me.....replaced switch...$140 later....problem gone.
