Underside squeaking

Nice rig

Driving to work today I had to go slow through some jersey barriers and heard a squeak under my rig. I stopped and it went away, sped up slowly to about 10mph and as soon as I started going it would come back getting faster as I would go. Sounds like a "rotating" noise, didn't sound like the wheels, maybe driveshaft squeak?? I just had my transfer case dropped and resealed at the dealer about a month ago. I plan on jacking up the rear end and putting the tranny in neutral then spinning the rear wheels by hand to see if maybe the front driveshaft is rotating. Suggestions are very welcome.

I had something similar at low speeds and the rhythm made me thing it was some rotating part. Turned out that the spare wasn't snugged up against the frame and what I was hearing was the squeak of rubber on metal. Just something small to check before you invest any time or $$$

Hope this works ok - I'm new to this so here it goes. I have the same symptoms and was wondering if you found out what was your underlying issue? I just had replaced my yoke with the new "nickle-plated: yoke to rid my jerking / leaping at stop and starts. the yoke worked but now i have this under noise and I've heard there is a special GM lube that should be used but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?? thanks.

Have you ever replaced the U-joints on the main driveshaft? If you have the original sealed units which came on the 2000, this is probably your culprit.

It seems to have fixed itself, and yes I still have the original u-joints. If the sound comes back I'll probably go ahead and swap them out...the spare tire was good to go. But now I have a different thing that is going on, see my other post about a squeek, but it comes and goes. I tried to get a rep to hear it and it wouldn't duplicate...go figure. :)

here is what just happened to me....

Really ugly sound under hard acceleration from standstill, and hard braking. Sounded kind of like the pinging noise of a kettle just before boil, but much louder.

The rear seal on trans was moist, so I asked garage to replace it, and find the noise.

They call me and say "we dropped the driveshaft to replace the tranny seal, and the u-joints just fell apart" they were wasted(01 rado/98kmi ).

They replaced, and STILL makes the ugly sounds.

They lookup GM and find TSB on driveshaft for internal tear in shaft.

500 bucks later, truck runs like a sore prick!(thanks Dad for that expression). the clunking noise it had been making, practically since I got it has also gone away.

Now that I paid a private garage and mechanic to replace it, i will ask now.

Do I have any recourse with GM on getting reimbursed as this was a TSB? I called a local dealer and pretty much got snubbed on the phone(they said its out of my pocket anyway).

Well,

I took the shaft to a friends house, we slapped it on the chop saw to see whats inside, and found that it is about 1/8 inch thick shell, aluminum, and inside is a bigass piece of gray foam, with a groove cut out in it the length of the shaft.

Sounds REAL CHEESY, esp for a full sized 4x4 truck, Z71. What are they stock?..around 275HP. Im glad I didnt slap the supercharger on there, and anyone who did that plans on using that power might want to find a shop and have a custom shaft made.
