'02 1500HD died in my driveway - won't restart

Maybe someone here can help me out. My truck died as I was pulling into my driveway last night and wouldn't restart. This morning it fired right up and ran for a minute or so and then died again but wouldn't restart. It'll spin over and hit for about a split second but won't keep running.

 

It's a 2002 Chevy 1500HD 4X4 6.0L, auto.

 

I plugged my scanner in and I have the following codes:

 

PO131 - 02S Circuit Low Voltage

PO151 - 02S Circuit Low Voltage

PO706 - Trans Range Circuit

P1504 - Vehicle Speed Output Circuit

and finally....

P1336 - Crankshaft Position relearn procedure (Ignore this one - it's had this for almost a year since I loaded a Diablo tune on the truck ).

 

Anybody have any clue what would spark all of these codes and keep my truck from running?

With the codes p0131 and p0151 both are lean codes, which means a fuel problem or large vacuum leak around the intake area. Which both would cause your no start problem. Start with the fuel system 1st. When you turn the key on can you hear the fuel pump kick on for a few sec. Also check the fuel presure regulater. I will be faster and easier if you have a fuel psi gauge.

 

Code p1504. rear speed sensor. The PCM detects low voltage on the vehicle speed signal circuit for 45 seconds.

 

Codes p0706. The transmission range (TR) switch is part of the park/neutral position and back-up lamp switch assembly and is externally mounted on the transmission manual shaft. The TR switch is a multi-signal switch. The PCM supplies ignition voltage to the TR switch on four signal circuits, A, B, C, and P. Each gear selector lever position grounds one or more of the switch circuits. In order to determine the gear range selected by the driver, the PCM compares the voltage combinations on the signal circuits to a look up table stored in the PCM memory. PCM detects the selected gear range by the state change of the switch input. Refer to Transmission Range Switch Logic table.

 

Switch input to the PCM is represented on the scan tool as HI and Low. HI indicates an ignition voltage signal. Low indicates a zero voltage signal. The four parameters represent transmission range switch signal A, B, C and Parity.

 

DTC P0706 will set if the PCM detects start-up in a drive range or vehicle speed in the PARK or NEUTRAL range.

P0706 is being caused by codes p1504.

I just remembered this after reading your reply; I have noticed that since I bought the truck about a year and half ago that the fuel pump has always been VERY loud. It actually makes kind of a "squealing" sound. Not what I would consider a normal electric fuel pump sound.

 

Your comments about the "lean" codes and my noisey pump would certainly lean (no pun intended) toward a fuel pump issue. I do have a fuel pressure gauge so I'll check that first thing tonight.

Also to note gm fuel pumps are normaly loud

Sounds like a fuel pump to me. That's what mine did.

Well, I just checked my fuel pressure with a test gauge and the pressure reads ZERO. It wouldn't even move the needle. I also don't hear the pump AT ALL.

 

Guess a pump is in order.
