I recently hauled a snowplow in 60F weather from Installer to Home (approximately 60 miles) and saw the tranny temp gage go up to 180F. (Plow was blocking air flow through radiator). I looked in the owners manual and found out that there is a saftey sensor that will reduce the operation of the vehilce it it got above 265F. So I think you are still ok.

I would say from 150 to 225 would be a normal range under driving or towing

James, a couple of things.

Were you towing with the Tow Haul engaged? If not and your trans was searching for gears up and down you will see the temp rise. You should use the TH mode if the trailer weighs 65% to 75% of your max tow wt. My owners manual does not recommend using for light loads.

Were you in some hills or was it flat?

It is my understanding that the warning light comes on at 250 degrees and then at some temp closer to 275 another warning comes in telling you to stop the truck and idle it to cool it down.

In my opinion, these temps are too high and I pesonally do not want my trans temps to reach anywhere near 250 degrees. I like to see my temps around 175 when not towing and 200 when towing with spikes up to 210 or maybe 220 if the hills were tough.

I removed my small factory aux cooler and installed a larger stacked plate design. In some parts of the country this may cool the trans too much but where I live, this is not an issue.

Let me know if you would like more info on the larger aux cooler.

I just realized that you have an '07. You may not even have an aux cooler on this truck. It seems that GM has all but eliminated the aux cooler except on certain equiped trucks. If you have one, it will be right in the middle of the grill and wil lbe appox 5" tall by 11" wide and will look like a small radiator.
