Help with VIN problem

I had an earlier thread on here about my 2004 Chevy Suburban's Autoride not functioning properly. This was a big selling point for me due to towing a bass boat frequently. I took it into the service dept and they tell me it doesnt have Autoride. The salesman and sales manager just have a confused look on their face and dont seem to know whats going on, which is making me really nervous. They say theyll have to do some research to see exactly whats on there. Im hoping you guys can help me with this. The VIN is 1GNFK16Z64J269319. Id like to know whats really on this thing. Its supposed to have AWD and some other options, but im getting suspicious about maybe not getting what I thought I was getting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That won't be contained in your VIN. It will be listed in the RPO codes that are on a sticker inside your glove box.

 

Under "Resources" on the left of the page here, there is an RPO code guide that should help you out.

 

And as far as I know, there is no such beast as "AWD" on Suburbans. Just 2WD or 4WD.

Also, I used the RPO code stuff and there was quite a few codes that are in my glove box that arent listed there. Is there any other way to tell whats really on this thing without listing all those RPO codes?

Some of the RPO codes on the label aren't worth knowing the meaning of like if the truck was ordered for dealer stock or for a customer or even if there was an order acknowledgment sent.

 

Someone in the Service Department can print out the vehicle build sheet for you and it'll have all of this information. When I've asked for it in the past, they have always given me one. (I try to ask nice and pick a time when it looks like they aren't busy with other important things.)

 

Someone here on the Forums has even e-mailed all of this information for my truck. (If I could only remember who.)

 

I see "Automatic Level Control" and "Electronic Suspension Control" listed in the service manual. I think the problem is that the terms they use are different between the sales people and the service manual. Nowhere do I see Autoride except in the Owners Manual. By comparing the descriptions of everything, it looks like "G69 Level Control Auto, Air, HD" and "Electronic Suspension Control" together with "Automatic Level Control" and "Autoride" all mean the same thing.

I think the problem is that the terms they use are different between the sales people and the service manual.

 

Boy, are you ever right on that one, but add the parts department in there too. Several people here have asked about a problem with their "Autoride", but I'll be darned if I could ever find Autoride in our service information.

 

If you want to see if you really have it or not, look for the G69. Or, go look at the right side of the rear axle, on the rear side. There should be a big box there that holds the compressor.

 

Anyway, I have a TSB that may help with your problem.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

 

Condition/Concern:

Automatic level control inoperative due to water ingestion.

 

Recommendation/Instructions:

 

A new automatic level control service compressor part number 15254590 has been released with improvements to protect against water intrusion. The service part improvements include:

 

• The internal vent solenoid has an improved water intrusion resistant coating.

 

 

• The plastic air intake box has been redesigned to prevent water entry into the compressor.

 

 

The new compressor is supplied with a hose that has the new air box attached. When you install the replacement compressor, it's important to install the complete compressor assembly, including the hose and air box. The air box/hose and the differential breather hose are attached at the same location to the fuel tank filler neck. The attachment of these components requires a common plastic barbed "Christmas tree" retainer.

 

If you receive a Warranty Parts Return Request for a compressor replaced under warranty, be sure to include the old air box and air hose with the compressor when you package them for warranty return.

 

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Im still not quite sure what all of them mean, but I do know that based on these RPO codes that I dont have autoride. This is something Ill be taking up with the dealership tomorrow. They said that if they found that it didnt have autoride on it, that they would put something comparable to it on my rig to make up for the fact that they told me wrong. What should I ask for? The sales manager said something about air shocks that I could air up on my own, but im worried that would ruin the ride. Should I try to get them to install air bags instead?
