'07 Wheels on my '05?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I've seen some Yukon wheels on eBay that I think would look good on my Sierra.

But it looks like the backspacing (or is it offset?) might be different?

The specs I see say the 2007 wheels are "+33" while I see that my 2005's should be "+22"

Clearly this is 11 off. I assume it's 11mm?? And in which direction?

Has anyone done this & how well does it fit?

Thanks

Yes, It would sound like they talking about mm. 25.4mm is equal to one inch. So that would be a little less then a half in more positive offset. + offset = wheel mounting point is toward the outer lip of the wheel. - offsett = wheel mounting point closer to the inner lip of the wheel.

As far as 07 wheels fitting on your 05, I don't know.

Heres a bulletin on this issue,Its for the 20's but the offset issue still applies....

Document ID# 1867020

Subject: 20 Inch Accessory Wheels Available Through GM Accessories #06-03-10-011A - (10/16/2006)

Models: 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Series (½ Ton Only)

2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Series (½ Ton Only), Sierra Denali

This bulletin is being revised to update the tire label information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-03-10-011 (Section 03 -- Suspension).

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a reference guide for the technician to upgrade a vehicle from factory wheels and tires to 20" wheels and tires, which are available through GM Accessories. This guide will cover tires, wheels vehicle modifications, and warranty information.

Important: 20" accessories wheels released for 2007 model year (new style) full-size pick-ups are NOT compatible/interchangeable with 2007 and prior model year (classic) full-size trucks and utilities and vice versa. GM accessories wheels are validated and released for specific vehicle applications. In this case, a difference in wheel offsets exists between the different model years. Warranty coverage and dealer indemnification will not be provided in situations relating to incorrect application usage. These wheels are compatible with 2007 model year full size utilities.

Now that's interesting & good to know. So it sounds like the 2007 wheels would be 0.43" (11mm) offset from the 2005 wheels....but which direction? i.e. would they stick out more, or would they be too close to the wheelwells?

Thanks guys

Jeff

Wow - thanks a TON. That helps a lot & the photos tell the whole story. I'm sold.

Now the question is: what size tires are those? I really like the way the tread pattern looks. How well do they work in wet weather? Would you recommend them?

And I assume your wheels are stamped "+33" somewhere?

I'm excited now - thanks!!

The tires are Goodyear Fortera Triple tread 275/60/17, they are 30" diameter just like the stock 255/70/16. The tires are rated for wet, dry, and snow. So far the traction is great, although I haven't driven them in snow yet. I have only had the tires on for 1500 miles, so its really tough to give a full report. I was between this tire and the Bridgestone alenza (sp).

I really never looked for the +33, so it may or may not have that labeled on the wheels. Overall I'm very happy with the wheels.

Those are only 17's ??? They struck me as larger diameter than that from the photos..???

Hi unkleJ,

I have a 2004 Silverado running 255/70/16. I have a set of 17" factory wheels in the garage and was thinking of changing to 275/60/17. I am after better handling without too much of a sacrifice to ride quality. Can you fill us in on your experience?

Thanks,

Candido

Sure,

The ride is a bit stiffer, but nothing to be worried about. It could just be the brand of tire that I went with. Handling is very much improved. It is significantly flater in the corners and more sure-footed. On the down side the 17" wheel and tire combo that I used is 13 lbs heavier per corner, 63 vs. 50 for my old 16" aluminum wheels and 255/70/16 tires. At first, I believe I felt the added weight (because I'm super anal), but now it feels fine. It has to be way lighter than most of the 20" wheels out there.

I'm very happy with the setup.

Where did you find the specs for the wheels? I was looking to do the same on my '06 Silverado but couldn't find specs. I did find listings for a 1500 HD ? I do have the heavier weight pkg., I assume it is only the springs and shocks but is it different than the 1500 4x4.

Thanks Carl

They're cast into the backs of the wheels.
