Dash light help

I searched the forum and did not find a post with any good answers in it. I have a 01 GMC serria. The lights on the dash for the gauges do not work. The radio display works fine when the headlights are off but will not work while the head lights are on. I don't know where to start. I just bought the truck and last night was the first time I have drove it at night. Of course there is no warranty so I will be fixing this one myself. The truck as most every option you can get if that matters.

Are you using the automatic setup for the headlights or are you turning them on manually? Could be a faulty switch? If you know someone with a 2000-2002 truck, try switching out their cluster with yours and turn the lights on. If they still don't work, it might be a switch. At least this will begin your process of troubleshooting.

not to make you sound like an idiot or anything but did you check the dimmer?

Yeah I checked the dimmer, all fuses and all that easy stuff. I went by the Car lot I bought it from and the owner said he was going to fix it at no charge because it was broke when I bought it. I didn't even go by there for that reason. I was just asking if they had seen the problem before. I thought that was very nice and great customer service. thanks for the replies guys.
