See title. If you can please, please shoot me a PM. I think the dealer may be jacking me around on the pricing trying to get an extra buck AFTER they allready quoted me one price.

Thanks guys

Just tell them you want to see the invoice... If they don't show it to you then go to another dealer..

Edmunds is one site...you can also go to Kelly Blue Book www.kbb.com

Both sites will allow you to add options to any model and will give both invoice and sticker price for each option and your total.

Good Luck!

The amazing thing is that with internet access you haven't been able to find invoice prices. It's all over the net. All you gotta do is type "invoice prices" in google. But the fact is, because now everyone knows, it doesn't mean much. First up: Holdback. That's reported for GM to be 3%, so let's say you have an invoice of $40K, the MSRP is about $44K, and holdback is $1200, so the dealer's base cost isn't $40K, it's $38.8K. But that's just base. Next up: Incentives. Right now today the PUBLIC incentive for a 2500 HD Duramax Classic is $1250. The dealer doesn't pay that--the factory does. So if you got the truck for "invoice minus incentives" you'd pay $38,750, but the dealer still gets his $1200 holdback. Salesman makes 25% of that, so he makes $300 for selling you the rig. Next up: "private incentives," the hardest to figure out. For example, GM says to Mr. Dealer, "If you sell 110% of your quota, you get an extra $250 per vehicle sold." (Just an example: Don't tell me, "Hey, it's actually $275!") These issues get convoluted because of multi-layered private incentives. I haven't ever found a source for them, so the public is really flying blind here. You simply don't know unless you know a sales guy who will spill the beans to you. (My son sold cars for a year.)

Now, everyone wants a deal. The dealership must make a profit or he doesn't stay in business. It isn't trivial to keep a couple hundred trucks on the lot hoping they will sell. That's a lot of risk out there. Most car salesmen are not in high income brackets. So it's up to us to decide what's fair and what's a good value. I was just offered $50 above invoice minus $1250 incentive. Next round they took off $200. I don't think they're willing to go much lower, though they really tried to screw me on a trade. So that's out of the equation.

About 20% of the dealer profit is in after market stuff. What amazes me is someone will say, "Yeah, I got this amazing deal. Oh, and I bought the extended warranty, undercoating, paint protection, and fancy wheels." Duh, fella, you just made them back all their money.

So, I figure if a guy does his research and knows invoice, piggy backs on incentives, and doesn't go for after-market packs, he should do all right. But don't expect the dealer to give you a rig for less than he paid for it.

I usually don't even step foot in the dealer until it's time to pick up the vehicle unless I just want to go in to look around. Most of my transactions are done online, over the phone and by fax. That saves the trouble of them taking your keys and throwing them on the roof until the deal is done :shakehead::banghead:

Those big buildings don't come cheap. I'm sure most would love to sell everything at MSRP. A quick phone deal at $500. over invoice is usually fair. Plus they get any added kick-backs from the manufacturer. Everyone needs to eat.

In the end you go in, maybe sign a few papers, get the keys and away you go. Gone are the days of needing to deal with a saleman that will go back and forth for 3 hours and then the "close the deal guy" comes in to be the hero.

Good luck with your purchase!
