Diablo Predator - very disappointed!

I have a 2007 Classic 2500HD with the 6.0L and 4.10's. I found out that the Predator supports engine VIN code "U" (8th digit in the VIN) for the 2006 model year and NOT the 2007 Classic model year!! The 6.0L is no different from 06 to 07. Diablo told me that they don't have any idea when they will have a tune to support my 07 and yet my 07 is no different than an 06!! What gives? Did they just drop the ball and not plan for the engine code in the 07 Classic? I must say that I was very much looking forward to using one, but it looks like now I will be going to a competitor. Diablo surely lost a customer here! :banghead:

I like to refer to them as Diablow. They dropped the ball on my 03 Duramax with a tune that surged power so bad that you couldn't drive it. Took them weeks to finally make a patch that was just as bad. POS tuner is now an expensive door stop.

Drop the handhelds. Get a custom tune! If you have to go with a handheld because of warranty issues, go with a Superchips.

I had a Superchips in my 03 1500 and liked it. I figured with the new 2500HD I would give something different a shot so I figured I'd give the Predator a shot. Since that didn't work out I have already talked to Superchips and will be getting a Flashpaq. I'm not a custom tune kinda guy for my truck. I have a 2002 Firehawk that I like to play with the max perf out of. The truck is my daily driver and the handhelds give me what I need for what I use my truck for. I will be going back to Superchips since I was happy with them once before!

Sorry to hear the Predator didn't work out. Put that sucker up on fleabay, someone will take it! Your much like me in that I like flexibility that a handheld provides...especially if your still under warranty, which I am. I'm going to pick up a Superchips myself, then when the warranty is up I'll go with a custom tune from JesseBub at wait4meperformance.

I bought it from autoanything.com and I called them back and they got on the phone with Diablo and Diablo told them the same thing they told me. I now have the RMA info to send it back for a full refund, but instead I asked for a store credit and once they recieve the Predator back they will use the credit to send me the Superchips Flashpaq!! Auto Anything had some great customer service!

Nice!!! Let me know how the FlashPaq works out for ya. S.O.T.P. seat of the pants dino, mileage, all that stuff!

Will do! I've always done the usual CAI, exhaust then tuning and this go around I'm going for the tuning first to see what a difference it makes then I will add the CAI and exhaust later. I'll let you know! I definitely need it since I added the 285's!!

I have a Flashpaq for my Duramax and it's pretty cool. No real problems, the Allison is learning pretty quickly and I DEFINITELY have more juice.

When I was buying a tuner for my 06 2500 hd I had run into a question from one of the manufacturers about what computer was in my truck. Apparently in late '06 ,GM added a program into the system called the "candi" or "candice" program. I'm not exactly sure what it does except its a piggyback emmissions program. Not sure of the exact name either. But I do know that when the question was asked most of the programming tuner companies said that there product would not work with my truck. However the superchip flashpaq was compatible. It's a nice programmer but the verdict is still out wether I am fully satisfied with it. I had hoped for more features but It does add a nice kick to the motor and tranny. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty nice piece.

I have been running a Diablo Predator tune in my 04 Ford Excursion PSD for the last three years. It's been awesome with plenty of added power and torque.

It came with a 45 HP tow tune, 65HP Performance tune and a 125HP racing tune. I usually run in the 65HP tune and if truck needs service I restore factory tune.

I have been contemplating getting the same if we decide to buy one of the new 2500HD's. Not so sure now.

That was one of the reasons I wanted to try the Predator was something different. I had a Superchips in my 03 1500 and I liked it. Since I drive my truck everyday I just want to wake up the motor a bit and while the custom tunes are the way to go to get the most out of the truck, they just don't suit my needs. I will be going with the Flashpaq as soon as autoanything gives me my store credit on the RMA for the Predator. I haven't heard to many negatives about the Flashpaq and I like the idea of being able to get updates off the computer w/o having to send the whol eunit back. I want to do the tune first then the CAI and exhaust. I was up on using the Predator, but my first experience with them has not been a good one - especially since they told me they have no idea when they will have a tune for my truck!! I'm beginning to wonder if they just didn't drop the ball on preparing for the 07 Classics and now that the new 07's are out I'm sure the tune for the Classics has been dropped down the priority ladder!

I have the Predator for my '01 6.0L 2500HD and love it. The added power is awesome, plus all the adjustments that can be programmed.

I wouldn't spend my money on anything else.

Well, I would have kept the Predator and used it had they had a program for my truck! As you can see by my post their program doesn't support engine code "U" for an 07 Classic 2500HD. I'm glad your happy with it and I probably would be too if it worked and had they had any idea when they would have a program for mine!

    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
