Well, my '06 Siearr CC got broken into this past Thursday in broad daylight at the local Sonny's Bar-B-Que while parked right next to a city police cruiser. Anyhow, the perp broke in by jamming a screwdriver-like device into the driver's side door lock while forcing the handle down and bending the lock upwards. It trashed the lock and broke the handle bezel.

 

I will need to replace the lock and bezel. I was just wondering if someone could tell me the best plan of attack here. Do I have to order a key/lock combo and have something in the security system reprogrammed or can I just purchase a lock that matches my key?

 

Also, can anyone tell me why my alarm never went off? Is it really that easy to break into these trucks and not set the alarm off? The truck was only about 40 yards from me. I could have heard the alarm.

I know that the two Chevies i have owned havnt had any secruity system. Dispite the fact that it flashes security, all that is, is the passlock system that stops the truck from being started/taken. There is nothing that will go off if the truck is broken into. so in short, yes they are that easy to break in to. but so are all other cars.

And that particular repair on the sheetmetal can run over $500

You will have to buy a new lock or "key cylinder" and get it coded to your current key,They do not come coded from GM.

 

Which brings me to a comment,I think the key cylinder is what you mean and not the lock,If you go into the parts dept. and ask for the lock they will probably look up the door lock or "latch" inside the door.

I've had this happen to me,customers will call and ask me for a price on the lock,so I look up the lock asm.,then they ask if it comes with a key and then I know they want the cylinder and not the lock.

Thanks. I'll make sure to ask for the key cylinder. Lucky for me, there was no sheetmetal damage. I do know the truck has some kind of alarm because I've set it off myself a few times. Sometimes when I'm using the truck around the house for chores I will leave my key in the ignition if I'm staying nearby. After some time of leaving the key in the ignition, a timer must arm the alarm because when I open the door, the alarm (horn) goes off. The key has to be removed from the ignition and the panic button on the remote has to be pressed to reset.

There is a things called jimmi jammer it goes behind your door lock so someone cant do what they did to you. I havent seen them work yet and really dont want to see if they work. But ive had some buddies of mine install them after their trucks were broken in to. Just search that name on google. They run about $40 http://trucktechniques.com/jimmijammer.html
