Well i went to start about a 4 hour trip back home today, and my drivers side window wont budge. Wouldnt be a problem but its down. I understand the whole swapping procedure, i was just wondering if those 50$ ebay motors are worth it, and do they work as good. Also, can i manually put the window back up, even if i have to tape it there. Man i just got through dynamatting the doors about twice over too haha oh well Anyone who has used the ebay setup please chime in, your resonses will all be appreciated. thank you

My passenger side window takes about twice as long to go up as my drivers side. I'm also interested in how those ebay motors work out, as it seems like mine will be gone by the end of the summer...

Yah mine have been slow for years, and lights dim pretty hard if doing both at same time. I always figured was just bad battery, but i had battery and alternator done not too long ago and it still did it. What really sucks is i have to be back in school by wed and i know im not going to get it fixed by then, but id like to at least know what im going to be buying (where). Kicker was i just dynamatted it (2 layers) about 2 weeks ago, and i was literally pulling out the driveway letting the mesquitos out, and started to roll it up nothing. turn back around and start pulling truck apart. there was only one post that said "ebay one doesnt seem as good as other", but everyone else seemed satisfied. its not that big of a deal, i just noticed there was a ton of people on here thats had the problem, and was looking for feedback, time they lasted, etc. thanks for the quick replies.

My experience for the GMT800 series trucks is the regulators themselves are the problems, not the motors. Which is why GM no longer sells the cable type regulators with motors, only available separate. However, the cables binding up often causes too much stress to the motor and will cause the motor to fail also. Take a GOOD look at the cables inside their and be careful when changing the motors cause the drums are difficult to keep wound if they come out of the housing on the regulator.

The OEM design has been updated since original too. I usually see this problem in winter time, when folks try to roll the frozen shut window down... gotta get that Starbucks drivethrough when its snowing!!!

I bought a cheap $50 motor from ebay for my wife's old Buick Skylark and it sucked! It made a really nasty grinding noise when it rolled the window up even though it fit perfectly and tracked the window perfectly.

I just replaced mine with one from the dealer a few weeks ago. My passenger side was stuck open and it was about to start 2 days of storms, so I didn't have time to wait and no one else had it in stock. It was worth the cost to me as the window now operates smoother and faster than it ever did even when new.

Well i got it out now, and decided to go with some from a1electric. they claim they are chevrolet parts, and it was about $115. It wasnt a hard job at all, but it tore the dynamatt all up. Anyhow, thanks for all of your help. Very much appreciated.

I totally agree with what Rolling posted earlier. I would caution you about using ebay for parts as I have not had good luck with car parts. Everything else, I've always come out on top. The thing you have to remember is that very seldom will a manufacturer honor a waranty on products sold by an ebay vendor becuase they (sometimes, but not always) are not an authorized dealer.

You may getlucky, though. Best of luck!

I bought a used GM regulator on Ebay about 2 years ago for around $30.00 and it's working great.

I got one off of ebay for about $45 and it worked great for about 3 months (pass side). It rolls down fine, but when it rolls up the window will stick and the motor makes a br-br-br-br-br-br noise. The window is in the track perfectly and i lubed the tracks with silicone spray. I can pull up on the window to get it going again, but I'm gonna have to replace it again.
