Rear Diff Magnet

I pulled off the rear diff cover and when cleaned off the magnet it was loose so I took it off completely in order to clean it and replace it again but have had troubles securing it to the housing.

 

Anyone have any suggestions or any experience with this? I am not sure about just putting it back in place with out it being glued somehow but anything I have tried so far doesn't want to hold.

I always secure mine with gray permatex after degreasing the area in the diff that I want to stick it. --usually where oil thrown off of the ring gear will hit it. let it cure before putting cover back on.

I ended up using plumbers appoxy as it was used to fasten cast iron and plastics, let it set for 8 hours then put the cover back on. I plan on checking it in a few weeks to see if has had any issues with the diff fluid breaking down the appoxy. I was going to resort to construction adhesive if the appoxy didn't hold.
