Intermittant Noise Within Dash

On my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 with 24k miles I am experiencing an intermittant grinding sound from the driver's side within the dash area. It happens most always at start up in the morning for a few seconds and a few other times a day while driving. I want to say it happens more when accelerating from stop or out of a low speed turn. It is not real loud most of the time, just loud enough to be annoying, then at other times the passenger can hear it as well. I heard it could be related to the dual climate control feature, maybe balancing the air. Any input would be appreciated.

most of the time the a/c actuator will make more of a knocking sound, so i dont know if that is your problem... but the clusters have been known to make a sort of faint gear noise(grinding maybe), if that is the case, replacing the cluster may help. but gm says that it is normal for the clusters to make that noise and you should not attempt to repair it....

Clusters? I need help here, please define. "Gear noise", OK I could call it that, but not so faint. The noise can be quite aggravating, way more noise than I would expect from a late model low milage vehicle.

i had a grinding noise, sounded like it was coming from under my feet, they replaced the body bushing ,like new again :)

Was it constant? Or was it intermittant, hard to repeat?

the noise started off once in a while, but then over a short time [2 months] it became worse. took it in and they said there was a bulletin but no recall. the body bushing is collapsing and causeing the sleeve inside the bushing to contact the body during turns, bumps etc. thought it was the steering shaft again but all is good. worth a look at! :)

Found the noise! After I actually stuck my head down there I found that it was actually a "vibration". I am calling it part of the ac/htr duct work, an extension that directs air flow to the driver's side floor board area. There is a plastic rivet that is not attached to anything which was vibrating. I just pulled this extension off for now, need to get back in there with more light to see how it needs to be properly secured.

I have a noise sounds like bugs or rain hitting the windshield on the passenger side at speed over 70 mph. dealer thinks it is caused by the aftermarket plastic bug sheild I added.. I don't tink so. any idea how to fix this irritating noise.?? thanks Rog

You could remove the bug sheild and test their theory. If the noise is still there then take it back to the dealer.............

Or have someone else drive while you ride and put your hands on things on the passenger side and make sure something is not loose or vibrating...........

yes its the bug shield, they always do that... take it off.. funny that you say you dont belive the dealer, the last guy i told that the noise was caused by the bug shield was pissed and called me an idiot to my face, because he said i could find the actual problem so i blame it on the only thing that wasnt gonna be coverd under his warranty

Yup, it's the bug shield.. mine does the same thing. Open your hood and take a look at the tops of the headlights. You'll probably have some marks on them. I was going to take a look at a craft store for some adhesive strips of rubber to affix to the headlights as a pad but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
