Are There Any 8.1 Experts?

I have a 2002 Silverado 8.1/Allison and I have questions .

 

What kind of power upgrades for the 8.1 which will keep in mind the Allison Transmission , will be safe for the transmission ?

 

From what I know , the 8.1 comes with enough power that will not damage the Allison .

 

Will any upgrades in power , like PCM mods , require a mod to the Allison?

 

I would like more power but not at the expense of hurting the tranny.

 

At present , I have a K&N but have removed the "clean and oil" filter with an identical Amsoil filter which requires no oiling , rather it only requires cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and eliminates the "red oil damage" of the K&N filter to the MAF . It has so far worked remarkably .

 

I am running on Amsoil 5W30 (Synthetic) and love it .

Give these guys a call. They will be able to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. I doubt your 8.1L will hurt the tranny unless you do something extreme like a supercharger.

 

I believe the Ally can handle close to 1000 ft/lb of tourque in its' stock config.

 

Remember that the Ally is also the same tranny that is behind the tourquey Dmax!

I have a Wester's tuned PCM from my '01 8'1L 1500HD. I don't have the truck anymore, I sold it. It is tuned for 5000' elevation, 80% torque management removal and dual tune 87/91 octane and 4.10 gears. I am checking with Wester's now to see if it will work in an '02. Make me an offer if interested. They are selling for $399 right now, normally $495 and you get to keep your stock PCM.

Don't think so. To the best of my knowledge, the 8.1L was only available in the '01-'06 2500 HD and 3500 trucks. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
