Remove Spart Tire - Simple Question

OK, I have the glove box manual. I read it. I will now be the safest person on the planet.

 

But to the question. I read it. I can't make heads or tails from the description. Does the spare tire come down/remove with no added tools? Nothing from the hood area or cab.

 

In other words, can I just climb under back of truck and remove the spart tire with no added tools?

 

Has anyone actually removed the spare tire from the NBS GMT900?

there is a 3 piece rod assembly you have to put together - access hole in the rear bumper - stick it in and crank away ( i know what your thinking - tisk tisk )

The last time I attempted to change a tire was on the interstate 15 years ago. Drivers side rear. I was pulled off over white line. But these freakin' idiots never slowed down traveling 75MPH and came so close to me. I think some were half asleep. Some were putting on makeup. Some were drinking coffee. Some were doing all at the same time.

I just dialed AAA.

'07 GMT900 ext cab has a vinyl pouch under rear seat. Not sure on Reg cap. BTW SQUARE end of rod assembly goes in hole w/flip cover to the right of tag.

Look for your tire-iron kit under the seat at the back wall - These tools to lower/raise the spare tire are the same ones used to rotate the screw jack.

 

Had my spare off last week since I swapped out the whole thing with a 20" wheel and bigger tire.

Some models have a locking access plate just to the right of the rear license plate. It uses your regular ignition key. Once that plate is removed, then you can insert to rod and crank it CCW to lower the spare.

Yep, that all sounds right. I read the same thing in my manual but haven't actually done it, yet. My '02 Tahoe had the same setup, including the locking access feature which is a definite theft deterrent option that should be standard.
