97 Gmc Tranny Problem

I've got a 1997 GMC that seems to have a tranny issue. The torque converter seems to lock up when it's cold outside. It's actually locked in while coming to a stop a few times it has killed the engine. I've had this truck for a little over three years, seems every time cold weather comes around I have this problem intermittently. It will do it a few days in a row, then not do it for several days in a row or longer. Seems like if you drive it 5 or 6 miles the problem will usually go away, but not always sometimes it keeps sticking. It has sent a P0742 code once in three years. This truck will take off from a stop in low and shift directly into overdrive, while the shifter is set in the 3rd gear position. Anybody else have this problem and figure out a fix for it?
