Have to reset check engine light every 200 to 300 miles or so shows p0440 code on scanner ,truck runs great any ideas? :flag:

Check the vacumn hoses going to the Evap canister. Could be one is loose or has a rubbed thru place on it. Could also be the purge valve.

I would check the fuel cap and make sure the gasket is good. When done fueling make sure you tighten it at least "3 clicks". If that doesnt fix it, I would go with the purge valve. It's on top of the manifold in the front (easy to change). It's my understanding the truck runs a diagnostic at around the 1/2 tank level and thats probably when you're throwing the code.

If I was buying a service manual to be able to work on my own truck .... I would get a HELM manual. That is the same manual the dealer uses for repair. They are great if you are going to be doing work on your truck and not taking it to the dealer.

Check ebay or you can get them at

Yep, they cost a little more than a Haynes or Chilton, but if you do much of your own work... they will pay for themselves with troubleshooting trees and time saved.

It's a very common problem. Evap. vent valve the part# is 10382105 I think. There's a new design, the old ones get clogged with dirt and fail.

There's a TSB about it, your dealer will know the new part#.
