Input Requested On Mods For '96 Silverado

I have a '96 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 4x4 Shortbed with the 350 Vortec, auto trans and 3.42 gears. It has the factory tow package and a 3 ton Draw-Tite hitch. It's in great shape and only has 60k miles on it so I'm not looking to replace it but would like to increase towing capabilty and braking power as I currently have a 20' boat but would like to move up to a 22-24 footer that would probably weigh another ton including trailer.

 

I'm running 265/16 tires and the only things I have done to it so far is put an extra leaf in the rear stack and replaced the paper element with a K&N filter. I'm thinking of changing the gears out to 3.73's or 4.10's and would like to boost HP a bit.

Intake, exhaust, custom tune (96 was Vortec, right?), and definitely go with the 4.10s if you're going to tow at all. You won't notice a huge difference going from 3.42 to 3.73.

 

Only 60K? d**n, that thing's barely broken in! I'm 100k past that.

Swap in a 4.10 gear set and get a tune. You're already running too big of tire for that gear ratio.

Trying to get some quotes on changing the gear sets out. After I get a handle on that I'll figure out what I can afford to do.
