Engine Failure 2001 Express Van 5.7 Vortec

Okay, the neighbor siezed his engine on his Express Van, because apparantly, the oil pressure relief valve got stuck and mushroomed the oil filter and pushed all the oil out and ruined the engine. The engine has 99K on it. Is that a common occurence? The van had 900 miles on the oil change.

 

The next question, how difficult is it to take the engine out of a 2001 1500 Express Van/Conversion Van? I have done regular trucks and cars, but not vans. Looks pretty tough. Any suggestions?

 

Also, It is a Vortec 350, with the Vortec Heads and factory roller cam. Are there any engine choices in the GM Performance line that will be a direct bolt in for that van, or is there just the factory replacment option?
