finallllly got the drop in there, and i have to say, MUCH better ride now... very happy... here she is.

Looks nice! I have a quick question, though... How do you define "better" re: the ride? I've always heard the 22's made for a rougher ride..

with the stock height, there was alot of body roll in corners... and also, when there was a rough section of road (like little bumps, or just a crappy road) the truck would hit them, and bounce around not only up at and down, but sometimes side to side a little, basically it would ''dance'' around. Now since its a lower center of gravity, it doesnt do that as much. The stock height of the truck is very stink bugged out... (higher in the back, than the front) which in turn, tranfers more weight to the front of the truck, making the back end dance around more, as well as give you less traction.

i know you comment was more about the wheels, and the answer is yes, bigger wheels/lo pro tires make the ride worse, but compaired to how it was, the drop made the ride alot better, well, heres a better way to say it, it made the truck handle alot better.

Cool. Thanks for providing such a thorough answer. I know what you mean about certain types of rough roads causing the back-end to dance / hop around... So, that's a 2/4 drop? Looks nice... It's probably a little lower than I'd want to go, but I would like to get the back-end out the air "like a cat in heat," I think one of my friends said...

That 2/4 drop looks really nice!

Couple of questions, What is the tire size and does that front kit have control arms or spindles? Any tire rub?

Thanks

Lonnie

yes thats the 2/4... i think mcgaughys also makes a 2/3...

and the 22s make it look a little lower than it is, or would be with stock wheels of course.

your truck looks good the way it is, just slightly higher in the rear... i remember reading the following somewhere, but dont quote me on it... the silverados (could be diff for sierra) has 1 inch riser blocks in the read end... and i think it said they were removable. if thats true, that might be what your looking for.... BUT from the pic of your truck, it doesnt look as high as stock silverados... so the sierra version might have been built without that, im not sure. might be worth looking into if you do want it slightly lower, without gettin a whole drop kit and stuff, since yours already looks nice.

Thanks for the info, Brady. I'll probably look at getting a drop shackle kit for the back, sometime this summer. I've been thinking about a rear sway bar. I'm still undecided on that one, though. I've heard that can re-introduce the rear-end bounce.. and if I can get rid of it, I'd really rather not bring it back! :)

Thanks again!

jake, they are 305/40s. (22 inch rims)... and the mcgaughys kit uses 2 inch drop spindles (ive heard control arms are a bad idea, and make your ride handle worse) and there is SLIGHT tire rub, but for some reason its only when i turn right. From reading around, i heard a good way to avoid this is to get a 295 tire (on a 9.5 inch wide rim)... esp if you plan on getting a 45 height tire. OR, if you want 24s, find a 24x9 rim, instead of 24x9.5... that way it shouldnt be an issue.

i saw a new silvy on 26s when i was out the other day... omg! my dirty section got excited! i almost went up to it to see if my key worked! hahahaha... not sure if it was lowered, or just leveled... but man did it look sweeeeeeeeet.

michael, not sure the diff between sierra and silvy like i said, but i got the drop kit with shackles/flip kit... and talked to the mechanic that did the install... and omg.. what a hastle!

i had it done at a chev dealer (i know someone who works there, so it was a good deal) and the mechanic said that in order to get the stock shackles off... you have to take out the one bolt, then air chistle out giant rivets that hold the shackle to the frame. Not really a hastle for you if you arent doing it yourself haha, but that can mean more labor time that you would have to pay for.

If i had only installed the spindles and flip kit, and left the shock shackles, it would have been a 7 inch drop in the back, instead of 4. the aftermarket shackles actaully bring the rear end back UP, after the flip kit has been installed... which isnt really explained clearly in the intructions. also, to get the bolt out of leaf springs, the gas tank has to come out, or at least be lowered down, enough to get the bolt out.... yet another time waster.

glad to answer any questions, if i can! learned alot, and actaully so did the dealer from doing this, they were interested in seeing what was involved... now they know! lol

EDIT - forgot about sway bars. i was thinking the same thing, but after doing this drop, the idea is gone. It handles very well for a full size truck the way it is now, so in my mind, a sway bar wouldnt be worth it... it might even make it so stiff, that the ride may be worse...

That's a hot truck man. I want to drop my truck 2 inches in the back. I think it looked good :)

thanks brian! i know, i was very very happy when i picked it up, and even happier after i drove it! BUT i still say it would hug 24s a little tighter :)

side note/random fact... i had bought the kit online, a few hundred $ cheaper than suggested retail.. but after it arrived at my house... i kept looking for them on the internet, and found this roughly 900 dollar kit... FOR 250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at 1st i was shocked, then i was mad... then depressed! hahaha, it was a sad 5 seconds to say the least! so for anyone looking to do this, google your brains out for days!
