New Truck Advice On A Few Things

Recommended Posts

Hy,just got my first oil change at 3100 miles. After reading alot of these threads on different topics,i got to thinking about a few things.

(1)I want a PCM tune from say wheatleys, but how long should a wait being a new truck.(miles before a tune?)

(2) I love SEAFOAM in all my vehicles- since i only have 3100 miles how long do i wait before using it in a new motor ?When will it be worth it,say 10,000 miles?

(3) The factory speakers are ok,but im looking to upgrade them.I have the crew cab sle 08.Has anyone added a amp or changed all 4 speakers or both?

Thanks for any and all help.

(1) No tune here, no good advice.

(2) Depends on which way you want to use it. This should help you make the call.

(3) I have added an Alpine 4-Channel amp and type-R speakers (components in the front, coaxial in the rear) in my EC. It makes all the difference. I used a PAC device for grabbing the output signals and remote power from the stock HU and then placed the amp under the passenger seat. I tapped into the front speakers inside the fuse panel area (same spot on pass. side) and I tapped into the rear speaker wire underneath the rear sill plates. I simply ran my new speaker wire from the amp to those points and tied in rather than trying to run the new speaker wire through the doors. It takes a little work but it's not bad and is well worth it. The stock speakers are brutal. The signal sounds great and is good enough that I'll not be buying an after market HU. I also still have my turn signal clicks, door chimes and OnStar functionality.

Hope that helps.
