Question: Intermiediate Shaft On The Nbs

Okay, I've got 3000 miles on my new HD Crew and I noticed right away a knocking coming from the steering. I talked with my buddy who is a Service Tech for GM who answers calls from other dealers and he said he hasn't heard any trouble so I blew it off as being paranoid.

The past 5 days I spent at the cabin up north and bombing around on the two tracks like usual and it is very noticeable then.

Has anyone experienced this....is it the steering shaft? Something else??

I know that from 1999 - the end of the body style ALL those trucks had the same POS intermediate shaft problem.

HELP!!

Thanks,

Paul

I had the same problem and had the intermidiate drive shaft replaced and it didn't fix the problem so they shimmed some bushing in the front end and it seems to have fixed it so far but will see what happens.

Good Luck

On the NBS or the old body style?

Thanks for replying.

Mine is doing the same thing. I was wondering if it was my mind or not. I have an 01 so I know what it feels like. I drove this thing off the lot and the first bumps I hit there it was the familiar knock in the steering wheel. I guess I will have to talk to the dealer, sucks.

Ugh. I feel it in my 2008 2500HD with only 200 miles. Man, this really sucks. Didn't notice it on the test drive.

I also have a 2004 Tahoe with a cruddy intermediate shaft, so I know what it feels like.

I won't be able to get it to the dealer for at least a week, but I'll update back with what I find.

Ok, I got a chance to take it in to the dealer.

Dealer techs/foreman couldn't feel the looseness at first. After taking the foreman for a drive, he admitted to feeling the problem (don't know if he was just trying to appease me though). He offered to have me drive another '08 from the lot. That '08 didn't have the problem. I also noticed the steering felt much tighter as well.

They left my ticket open and are researching the problem further.

Let me know if they figure it out and I'll do the same when the truck goes into the dealer.
