Noisy front axle

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a howling noise when in 4WD, it goes away when I go back to 2WD. I'm assuming I have a bearing going bad. Noise is steady with speed, doesn't change as trans shifts. Can anyone tell me how to find which one it is and how hard are they to change? Mike

It's not normal. Sounds like it comes from the drivers side, but whether it is the outer bearing or pinion brg I haven't determined yet. If it was noisy when turning I would think it was the CV.

I don't know if I'm up for changing the pinion, but I could handle the outer. Mike
