5.7 pistons/heads

Just stumbled across this sight. Nice sight.

Well any way, I've been searching all day for GM stock engine specs. In particular, piston dish/vavle refief cc and head cc on the pre 96-'87 5.7's.  Any sights around with this info, or does anyone know it off the top of your head?

Stock GM 350 pistons are dished. They are also forged, not cast, so if you are doing a rebuild they are keepers if in good shape.

The head combustion chambe size depends on the year model. The most common size is 76cc and there is a 64cc that is not as common.

If you can give me a year model, I can tell you what GM put in it.

Thanks for the reply. I usually don't mess with stockers too much and don't have many reference manuals for the newer stuff from about '87 on.

I need to know the piston and head specs on a '95 1/2 ton but it would be nice to know what GM put in all the truck engines from '87 up. I have been scouring the web for any sight that would have these details, but haven't turned up anything pre vortec. I really just need to stop procrastinating and pick up a few shop manuals.

When did GM go with forged pistons? That's interesting. I knew they were running hypers in a few mills, but was unaware of the forged slugs.

I think the hypereutectics started in '96 with the introduction of the Vortec 350.

Hadn't heard about forged pistons in the newer trucks, but I am pretty sure alot of the older trucks (late 60s early to mid '70s) had them.

Try calling your local GM parts counter, if you can find one that has been at it awhile they are usually pretty helpful.
