Another 'oops I Overloaded My Truck' Thread

One of these days I'll learn to research online how much certain materials weigh before they go into my truck - and before they squat the backend down enough for me to say... "wow, that looks like it weighs more than I would have thought". I did it with a pallet of sod a while back, then a pallet of sand and mortar bags, well... did it again with a few straps of brick. The backside was riding the bump stops, but I took it easy, and thought it was interesting that she still got moving from a stop light with almost no effort, and the braking distance was substantially unchanged.

(excuse the crappy cell phone pics)

You can haul lots of weight in these trucks if you are very careful about how you drive when loaded. I live in an area that has a lot of new home construction going on and I see the landscape guys all the time hauling giant pallets of grass on half ton trucks. They look like the rear bumper would be dragged off on any large bump in the road. I'm sure a few times in the truck's life wont hurt it. Not exactly sure about these guys doing it every day!

Lol

Jay that reminds me of the first week I had my truck (no plates still) and I picked up a pallet of pave stone.

The thing weighed close to 3200lbs!!! the guys were like oh $hit and when I asked them how much it weighed before they had to look it up.

Good thing the Home Depot was less than half a mile away.

I've had about 2,600 lbs in my NBS before I put my rear springs in, I had a pintle hitch on and the bottom of the plate would hit the ground on a hard bump, had concrete marks on it up about 3/4" of the rear...It was some damn drywall vinyl tile I had to pick up for a job, like 40 cartons of 4 tiles each. I originally told em to load all 80 of a full palette but the sales guy is like "Uh...That's like 4,600 lbs..." So I told em to put half on. Had to go about 15 miles but I took it easy. I think my rear fender was like maybe 2-3" from the tire...
