Wheel Hub?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 Silverado 1500 4WD with 80k and I have recently noticed a noise coming from the front wheel area. There is a ringing noise coming from the front end and it almost sounds like there is a small bell making noise up front. I thought it might be the bearings in the front wheel hub so I lifted up the truck and tried tilting the wheel in and out and there wasn't any play in it. Any ideas as to where else this sound might be coming from before I pull the whole Hub off and check the bearings?

It gets a little louder as I build up speed, but it never really gets very loud. I have to have the window rolled down and be listening for it in order to hear it.

When a hub and bearing assy goes bad, you can tell which side by steering left and right going down a street at 15 or 20 mph.. If youe noise is a bearing it will change in sound depending on the load when turning. Otherwise I don't know what might make that noise.
