Diesel Fuel On Paint Questions

Recommended Posts

Ok got diesel fuel on my paint when the pump overflowed while I was cleaning the windshield. :smash:

Wiped as much of the fuel off the paint as I could using a few napkins but did not get it all no paper towels at the gas station nor any water to rinse off the fuel.

This occured on Sat night.

Will not have soap and water untill this afternoon (sunday).

Am I screwed?

I was told that the fuel will ruin the paint.

Is there anything special that I should do / use that I can get from wallyworld on a sunday? :smash:

Looking for any and all help / reassurance.

If it makes a difference my paint color is black.

Thank you for your help.

I have been spilling diesel on paint (metal and gelcoat) for about nine years and have yet to see it cause any finish damage.

My wife has been driving her Jetta for almost 3 years and I have yet to see any damage from the diesel fuel on the paint.

Its not something that she spills constantly but enough times to know. Color of her car is silver. I'm not sure if that makes any difference.

You have nothing to worry about... I have spilled diesel more than once on the side of my truck and never had a problem with the paint in the past year...

My boss has an 03 and you can tell he spills a lot when his truck is dirty... But you could never tell after it has been clean!

TTS22, we had three TDI's-sure do miss getting 60+mpg.

Our first one, '99 A4 Jetta was the champ, 62mpg. Drove 16 hours to South Carolina burning approximately 3/4 gallons per hour. In just less than a year the dealer made me an offer-with 97k- on a new wagon that I couldn't pass up.

The 1.9's were astounding engines- but man could you save up some soot and put down smoke if you wanted to-came in handy at times!
