Killed Another Buck....

So today was a crazy day I was suppose to get up early this morning and go hunting behind the house but woke up with a headache so opted to sleep in before my doctors appointment..

I was on the computer before I left for my appointment and I heard gun shots so I peered out the window of my office and saw 3 deer in the back woods.. I tried to get my shotgun together with amo but wasnt able to get a shot... The one doe was quite big...

So after my appointment I went behind my neighbors house where I had a pipe feeder and my stealth cam.. Wanted to see if my camera had caught images of the deer that I had seen in the morning. But as I walked back there all 3 of those same deer were chillin back there by the corn.

So I am stoked I also found a buck scrape close by where my stand is... So by now its about 1 pm...

I went and looked at a potential job and got home just in time to get in my stand by 3.

As I had just reached the desired height in my tree climber I sit down and getting ready to pull my bow up I notice that there was someone walking through the woods..

Sounded like a herd of animals crashing through the woods..

Not recognizing this dude and me getting perturbed that he didnt see me till about 15 yards away from me wishing that I had shot him with my arrow I got right mad at him thinking that he was trespassing and all...

So once I learned who it was(one of my other neighbors) I told him that I am sorry that I was mean but thought that he might be trespassing... So we talked and he asked if I would let him know the next time I go hunting to invite him. He said that he doesnt like hunting alone.. I said sure..

By this time I am thinking, yea after this guy went crashing through the woods I am not going to see any deer... So I offered to him that I could get down and we could scout and try to find some places to hunt. He liked the idea so I got down from my tree and he had a cross bow and myself my compound bow.

I thought to myself well if we are going to do some scouting we might as well get some guns in case we jump a deer... So this we did and went on our way.

We got about 100 yards out and crossed the creek that our property's back up to.. And man was it pretty back there.... I saw were deer were killing the places where they had walking trails and deer runs crossing the creek..

I told my neighbor we need to find some ground blinds and try and hunt... By this time it was only about 3:30...

He asked me where I wanted to set up and I told him that he could pick first and I would go the other way.. So thats what we did and I found a spot rather quickly and got settled only to find after 5 minutes of sitting that I had a deer close by. I was sitting in a clearing backed up to a tree along the creek sitting on the ground with another tree in front of me and Holly's overhead. The clearing was only about 15 yards wide.. And on the other side was thick hardwoods. So I can barely make out what exactly this deer is at this time. after about 10 minutes he disappears behind a hill with thick brush so i cant see the other side.. So I grunt called and after about another 10 minutes of milling around he started heading my way. I noticed this guy to have a limp when he walked as he got closer. Once he got within full view I knew that I didnt want to shoot this deer. But he kept getting closer and closer.. So close I could about reach out and touch him... 5-10'..

I thought to myself:

1. He's messed up, his rack was small for his size.

2. this fricken deer is so close that he could easily knock me out with his hooves...

3. I dont want him to see me and ruin hunting for later this week...

So I shot him with my 3 1/2 buck shot... First shot brought him down after a couple roll overs. Second shot kept him from moving another inch.

This deer was a small 7 pointer and possibly was an 8 pointer but 1 tine got broke off. Had a messed up leg I am guessing from jumping a fence or something..

I hung him and skinned/gutted him on site.. beats draggin the brute. Probable weighed about 150-160...

Finally more meat in the freezer!

Just got back from Louisburg to get the meat process... Gonna get beef tips for making stew and stuff like that and the other half is going to be for snack sticks for Jerky! I did get the back straps too, YUMMY!
