Low Input On Maf Senser?

My 96 5.7litre started running rough up north, took it to the local guy, he changed the mass air flow senser and cleared the codes. It ran good for about 20 km. The check engine lite was on again on Sunday, he was closed and now about 4 hrs drive to go back to. I borrowed my neighbors code reader and it says mass air flow senser, low input. It will clear the code successfully but instantly the code comes back.

After reading the forums, I immediately removed the K & N filter that the truck was bought with(about 5 years ago, probably washed and re oiled 2 yrs ago) and washed the new maf senser and tubing w/ proper cleaner. After removing the wiring harness to maf, I get about 5 volts dc on bottom terminal. Does anyone know what is the expected voltage or anything else to check?

As far as the trucks performance goes, sometimes it will stall after start up when revs are coming down and on highway it will sputter when throttle position is changed.

I suppose I could break down and take it to the shop but I kinda like tinkering with her myself. Since its not my dailey driver I don't mind rippen er apart and leaven' it. I found the dreaded Ford crossfire with some help on the f150 website after spending large $$$ at the shop. That trucks long gone now :ughdance: .

Kind of sounds like what mine was doing awhile back.

Wound up my catalytic converters were stopped up, and there was a carbon buildup around the idle controll valve which made it stick open and run like hell spitn' and sputtering. Might check that. I really doubt its an electronic problem, but it could be.

Does it smell like its running rich or lean?

Smoke?

Oops don't know how the quote got there.- Thanks for the reply Faxcion, no smoke, smelled rich until it warmed up (around freezing here now). I stopped by a Parts Source today and they have a computer with access to a program by snap-on like Mitchel on demand, you put in your vehicle info and code #P0102 and it lists probable causes specific to that truck. The guy there seemed pretty knowledgeable saying maybe intake manifold gaskets (again?) or distributor bushings wear on these trucks causing vaccuum leak etc...Anyway I'll bring P0102 with me tomorrow to see what the suggestions to look for are. Will post again with outcome but maybe a while b4 I sort it out w/ Christmas comin' on faaasssttt.

Merry Christmas all
