8.6 Yoke Sleeve

2000 Suburban 1500 with 10bolt 8.6 rear.

I replaced the 3.73 original gears with new 4.10.

- Set correct pinion depth, correct pre-load with all new bearings, crush collar, seals.

- Installed diff., checked backlash, preload, checked gear pattern, everything up to specs.

I thought everything was ready to go - until the gear lube ran right out of the new pinion seal!

Fortunately, I kept all of the old parts and found a sleeve that I removed from the yoke because it looked pretty warn and had grooves in it from the seal. I just assumed this would be in the rebuild kit.

My first question is: should I get a new crush collar and nut and re-set everything after pulling off the yoke and reinstalling.

The second is if I can even purchase just this "yoke sleeve". I have not been able to track it down yet. The GM technical manual refers to it as the "pinion flange oil seal" (not to be confused with the pinion oil seal), but the parts manuals do not show this item. The seal has a part number of 26060975 on it.

I do not want to use the old one, and I want to avoid having to buy the yoke from GM for about $150 - which may or may not have this seal or sleeve with it.

Thanks in advance for your help :sigh:

Thanks all for the help and responses :fume:

I did find out that the yoke seal cannot be purchased individually. It can only be obtained with a new yoke kit from GM. This kit includes the yoke with the yoke seal, the pinion seal, and a new nut and washer.

The dealer gave me a break on the price and I only paid $99.

This is the first time that I noticed the thread. I bet you would've received more response's, if you would have asked your question in the new member section, along with an introduction about you and your truck. :fume: On another note, welcome aboard.
