Easy Way For 35's On 2500 Hd

Ive searched posts and havent seen much talk about body lifts on 2500 HD's. I would like to know how I could get 315-75-16'S on my 03 2500 HD. I seen a guy on here who had his t-bars cranked and had them on the stock HD rims. He said they fit with some trimming but everything ive seen says it's not going to happen.Any one know if A 2" or 3" body lift would get it up enough to run these tires on an 8" rim??? Also what kind of hit could be expected on the MPG??? 4wheelparts online chart seems to say with the 6.0 HD gears 315's are optimum for highway miles. That would be great for me since my daily trek to work and back is about 50 miles.

Check Performance Accessories for a body lift.

As far as gearing, if you have 4.10's you will be alright but 4.56's are optimal for 35's. Anything less than 4.10's, you will put unnecessary strain on your drivetrain.

As far as i know the 2500HD's with the 6.0 all had 4.10 gears. I have the tiny low rider 245's on now, should i just stick with the 285's insted of the 315's??? I know im spliting hairs but i would like to keep my 13 -14 MPG average. I had been told by a couple guys i work with i could get better mileage with a 285 and maybe even a 315.

That stock HD wheel is only 6 1/2" wide. Yeah, some people insist on putting huge tires on them, but it isn't a good idea. When you have a excessively wide tire on a narrow rim, the tread stability is greatly reduced. When you and going down the road the tread will be more apt to not follow the steering as closely. The truck will not steer as responsively. The truck may wander a bit as the surface of the road changes.

I have 265-75/16 tires on my 2500 stock rims . That's kinda pushing it. I have seen a number of people with 285s on stock rims, but I wouldn't do it. I could notice a loss of steering response/directional stability with just my 265s. Clearly, it can be done, but you may not like it. Some people just don't care about steering response or directional stablitiy. If you don't care about how well your truck steers, go for it. Otherwise, I'd recommend a wider rim appropriate for the tire width you want.

BTW,

Putting a taller tire on is a double sided sword when it comes to fuel economy. The taller tire requires more horsepower to turn, thus requiring more fuel per revolution. The taller tire goes further per revolution, reducing fuel consumption. Which one wins, I couldn't tell you. I'm guessing a tall wide tire will consume more fuel than the stock tires no matter the gear ratio. The better fuel economy would be with shorter tires and taller gears.

Not only could it reduce the steering responsiveness, you could also loose a bead with 315's on a 6.5" wide wheel. If you really want 315's, you really need an 8" wide wheel.

Both Nitto and Firestone recommend 8-10" wide wheels for the 315-75/16. 8" would be a minimum width.

It your wheels look like this, they are 6 1/2" wide.

No I have the other wheels, I had planned on going with a 8" rim either way. I figured i would go bigger if i could, Think ill just stay with a 285. I couldnt imagine a 315 on my stock rim!
