2003 Gmc Sierra 1500 Bose Cd Clayer Questions

I drive a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 xtd. cab w/factory amplified bose 6 disk cd changer along with steering wheel controls. I do not have XM or OnStar. I plan on installing (2) 10" subs under the xtd. cab seat along with an ipod plug in but I am having a hard decision with headset... any ideas? Here are my thoughts...

 

1. Keep the factory deck & factory steering wheel controls, then get a module that will give me a set of outputs for the subs along with the iPod adaptor.

 

2. I install the Pioneer DEH-8600MP cd player from a previous vehicle which gives me my outputs and ipod adaptor, but now I'm stuck with buying a steering wheel interface module along with the Bose module to keep all my door chimes, factory amplifier, basically keeping everything else the way it was.

 

Any idea what brands to go with or how much each option costs? When did everthing get so complicated, installing cd players and subwoofer systems used to be so easy!

I'm not 100% sure if the ipod adapters they make for your factory stereo will still allow you to use the 6 disk changer. Every one I know of, you have to uplug the changer and plug the adapter in its place. But If all your wanting to add is subs, I'd keep the factory radio in there. Like you said, too much integration stuff to replace the stereo. But on the other hand, if you were planning on replacing the stereo, AND all the speakers then I'd do it, because then you could bypass the bose amps by running new speaker wires from the head unit to the speakers. But to upgrade just the stereo and keep the bose amps, the bose integration harness alone is well over 100 bucks. Scosche makes a radio harness with chime module for 03-06 non-bose, non-onstar trucks (or else not keeping bose or onstar)and Wal-mart sells it for 38 bucks. Thats the cheapest way to retain the chimes when changing the stereo. But then you'd still have the steering wheel conrtrol interface to deal with. And will that pioneer even allow you to add remote controls? Like I said, your best (meaning easiest and cheapest) bet is to just add a line output converter and add an amp and subs. Depending on what amp you go with, you may not even need the line output converter. But do your homework on the ipod adapters and find out if you can get one that will allow you to still use your factory 6disk changer, if you can that'd be the way to go.
