Coolant Leak

Recommended Posts

I've been losing coolant for a while now on my '01 and finally had time to check it out today. Is it possible to have a leak somewhere around the crank pulley? It's really wet all around the bottom of the crank pulley and dripping. I spent a good hour or so looking for a trail from above from hoses and the water pump, but everything is dry. The gaskets look good on the pump and didn't see any coolant around the pump.

Not sure the answer to your direct question...but on my '02 I was losing coolant a while back. It never left any puddles and I couldn't see anywehere where it was leaking. It ended up being the water pump - it had a pin-hole leak that caused me to have to add coolant to the resovior almost monthly. My water pump was replaced under an extended warranty...supposedly the water pump problem is very common.

Theres a weep hole on the water pump. If there is a problem it should leak from it. Look when the engine is running. My guess is its leaking on the crank/balancer.

my truck did the same thing for a while it would not leak but then out of noware it was a constant drip. Turns out it was the waterpump gasket. But since i was already taking the old one off i just baought a remanufactured one for $40. Now no more leaks.

Well, maybe I'll just pull it off and check it out. It looks completely dry all around it and below it. I had it running today while checking for leaks, and I could really smell it, but didn't see anything coming from the pump. Guess I'll just pull it and replace it and see if that takes care of it.
