89 Silverado Carb Help

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 89 Silverado with a 350H.O. crate motor that I am coverting from tbi to carb. The tbi just isnt working out. I need to know what i need to do to make this work. i know that I need a carb, hei distributor, and a fuel pressure regulator. But what do i do with all of my computerized stuff? Do I leave anything hooked up? And what vacuum lines do i have to have hooked up. The only one that know of is from the cab to the distributor. I have an Edelbrock 600cfm elec choke and vacuum secondaries. Also is there anything special that i need to hook up my throttle and tranny cables. I am new at this carb thing, I really need some help. Thanks alot.

did this same thing to my old 89 I used to have. If its originally a tbi motor you have to use a special intake, not just any edelbrock intake will do because the center bolts are different. You need vacuum for distributor and brakes. What transmission do you have, because that could be a whole new list of issues? Scrap the computer, you wont need it anymore. You can use your existing temp sender wire and oild pressure sender wire to retain your stock gauges, but make sure you use the wire off the oil pressure sender and not from the oil pressure switch. Disconnect your fuel pump thats in the tank and put a mechanical one on the engine, it will suck through the electric one if you leave it in the tank, and its a lot less hassle than dealing with regulators. And a universal throttle bracket should take care of the cables
