Earnhardt Fans

I mentioned this a while ago when Jeremy said that the #3 souvenier trailers were at Richmond.

D.E. was one of the few drivers to have marketing rights to his own name, picture and car(I think he owned rights to #3). That is why for so long, it was hard to find his stuff. Walmart, Kmart, etc, didn't carry it until a few years ago. Now that he is gone, the market has been flooded with D.E. stuff. This has to be coming from Teresa. I think it's cheap and tacky, not to mention making her look like a golddigger.

I also noticed how many "fans" of D.E. are out there now. The last race I went to in '99, the only person to get more boos than Dale was Jeff Gordon. Now that he is gone, there are cars and trucks and posters at the tracks like crazy.

I was never an Earnhardt fan and always said so. I had a great amount of respect for his driving ability and realize that he was a living legend in NASCAR. I did not want to see his life end, and I think I secretly wanted him to get that 8th championship so I could cuss at him more.

I am just disgusted with the way a lot of things are being done since he died.

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

I have noticed that as well.  I wish only the true DE fans would be wearing his stuff.  I doesn't make any sense why to me people are doing this??????

Man, I'm not even going to touch this.  I noticed you posted something to this effect in any other thread and left it alone there too.  What I'd like to say to you right now would probably get me kicked off this site.  Maybe in a couple hours I will be able to tell you what I think nicely.

I have do dissagree with you on the part Teresa being a golddigger. If she was, I think she'd jack the price up on all his souveneirs, but she hasn't, all the prices for T-shirts and stuff were about the same as everybody elses.

I did notice something though, Action Performance Die-Casts had a trailer out there and they had Earnhardt cars there that were in the ?+ price range. So if anything, I'd say Action Performance Die-Casts are the goldiggers.

I would expect that from a company. Based on what I've seen in the past (Alan Kulwicki, Davey Allison, Adam Petty) when a driver gets killed, his souvenier prices go through the roof from individuals and some companies. But they quit making them. That is why this marketing of D.E.'s stuff bothers me. He is gone and still his souveniers are being turned out like they were a year ago. I just think it is showing extremely poor taste.

Alright, here goes nothing.  There is a reason they are still making DE souveniers, not just because Teresa is a golddigger.  They are trying to keep the prices from skyrocketing like was mentioned they have when other drivers died.  As the General mentioned, the prices of most items are staying the same.

As for the rest of what was said, it absolutely disgusted me.  I can't believe somebody has the nerve to call a widow a golddigger just a few months after her husbands death.  If I ever see something posted in poorer taste, I will be suprised.

Kansas Kid, have you read or heard about them continuing to make the souveniers to hold prices down or is that supposition on your part?

I did not write that about Teresa lightly. I have thought about it for a while, and that is honestly the way I see it.  I also did not write about this subject to stir people up deliberately. I wish that the world would let the man RIP. Is continued souvenier sales for profit any different than making court cases about his autopsy photos? Notice I did not say "posting or selling" autopsy photos, because that is just too morbid. But a college legal class decided to protest the privacy of the photos simply because they wanted to see if it could be done! I'm sure that a few names in that group will be remembered if they succeed.

Maybe "golddigger" was too strong and too inflammatory a term. For that, I am sorry.  But I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who thinks it is wrong to profit from his death in this way.

Earnhardt was the biggest seller of souviners and stuff like that at the track.  I don't think they would just all of the sudden stop selling his stuff.  It wouldn't be right to his TRUE fans.  There were a couple little things that I always passed up buying when at the track, like can coozie's, magnets and little things like that, but I'm glad I had the chance to get them at Darlington this spring.  I don't really think they will continue to sell things after this season.  I'm sure there will be things at the track to purchase, but not like it is now.  I could be wrong though.

I kinda hate seening all the bandwagon people buying his stuff.  I know a couple people that didn't like him at all, but now have a couple items.  I know for a fact that they wouldn't have bought them when he was alive.

Friz, I have read that the continuation of these souvenier sales is to keep the costs from skyrocleting.  I posted this previously the last time this was brought up in another thread.  D.E.I. and RCR both have said they continue to produce these things to keep people from taking advantage of the siuation by charging outrageous prices on things that were no longer made.

Fair enough.

I retract my statement about Teresa being a "goldigger" and trying to get rich off of her husband's death. I do truly apologize for offending anyone, I suppose I should have come out with a gentler way of speaking my mind than making accusations.

I am still in wonder though of all the "new fans" that D.E. has obtained.

Once again, Ol' Dan has accomplished "Open mouth, Insert foot", and it's a size 14 as well.

Now if Kansas Kid will let me off the hook, we can all be happy again.

Well, I can see where you're coming from Friz, there are a lot of Golddigges out there on the face of this planet of ours. Just look on Ebay (no offense 76BBsub, you aren't included in that statement).

Unfortunately, not enough ppl out there know how to "Read the fine print", or "keep a sharp eye out".
