Dash Light Malfunction

The gauge cluster lights and Air Conditioning/Control lights in my 1999 Sierra wont come on at all unless the dimmer switch is all the way up. (except the mileage/gear selection and upper warning lights, these work).

 

EDIT: I know (now that i searched) it is probably the dimmer switch. the only problem is my friend started ****ing around with the orange illumination wire on the back of the radio and hooked it up to the ground! now the lights mentioned above wont come on when the dimmer switch is in the up position either.

Don't let your friend mess with your truck anymore, he just made a short circuit. Hopefully all he did was blow a fuse.
