2007 Lbz Steering

Hello, Have a steering question. I have a 2007 4x4 2500 LBZ. The truck has 265 tires on it. Dealership has put 3 powersteering pumps and 2 gear boxes on it. Truck still will not turn without rolling. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes I can steer the truck sitting still with one finger, at other times it wont move more than half a round on the wheel no matter how hard you try.

Give me an idea what I need to do. Trucks still under warranty... Tony

How is your braking ability? Does the steering work with you having the brakes applied?

 

My first gues is the hydro-boost is defective.

Brakes work fine and have no effect at all on the steering effort. Are there any electrically controlled valves in the system? It acts like something electrical?

are you sure? My brakes reduce power to the steering.

The power steering and power brakes are definatly related. I sheered the shaft on my PS pump and lost my brakes. Not a good situation.

 

I have experianced the problem once or twice like you have, and took it to the dealer. GM has a lame answer to the problem claiming it is my 265/75/16 "oversize" tires. I think I have the printout of the bulletin still in my glovebox. In my opinion it is a design problem...

steering has been a weak area for years now. I would love to find someone who has researched this and come up with a fix.

On my 03, I had a similar issue after I installed aftermarket rims Stock wheels, I could turn with 1 finger while stopped, but after the wheels, I had to move a few inches while turning. I just got use to it cause others had the same issue. My 07 doesn't have that problem.

Maybe it is the Hydro boost? It acted the same way with the 245 tires on it. I just put the 265's on there. They cant seem to come up with anything at the dealer. Power brakes have never given any issue, but there isnt much left for them to replace.......
