4hi Mod On A Chevy Express?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is possible to do a 4hi headlight mod on a Chevy Express 3500?

I've done it on my Silverado, and want to do this on my van too.

Are the wiring harnesses between a 1 ton truck and 1 ton van similar enough that a headlight kit meant for the truck would work on my van?

This is the kit I already have on my truck, and would like to do on the van.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

You can jumper your high and low beam relays with a 5 cent 1 amp diode and achieve the identical results as any kit. I have 6 hi on all my 03 up T800's ( I have fogs) and have done it on all my friends trucks as well. You just jumper the high beam trigger to trigger the low beam relay.... and being it's a diode it will not backfeed.

I would imagine the vans have a similar setup for fuses. It can done at the BCM under the dash but I would rather not mess with that.

I did it on a couple of my 2k trucks too. One I did the relay version, the other was a wire jambed in there, instead of a diode. But it was a work truck so I wasn't too concerned about it.

I was hoping someone had a write-up for the vans. I am quickly figuring out there aren't many people out there fixing these things up. This is just a work van for me too, but I just can't help tinkering. I installed factory cruise in it yesterday and when I took it out for the test drive, I wondered if anyone had done the quad mod yet. That is what brought me here to this post.

I will do some digging and see if I can figure it out. Thanks,

Ok, I looked it up on alldata and found where the relays are. They are in the fuse block in the engine compartment on the driver's side. I see relays #56 & 58 are the relays for the lights. So I need to stick a diode from the high beam relay to the low beam relay trigger correct? On these micro relays, is there an easy way to check which is the trigger (lows) and which is the supply (highs)?

will these typically be +trigger, or ground trigger?

Thanks for any advise I can get.

99-02 GMT800's differ than 03 and newer as far as this mod I did ( any many others have). On the van because I can't see which is what I can't say. On the trucks it's pin 85 that acts as the trigger on all my relays.

Ok, I tore in to this and am having a problem. I pulled relay #56 above that is for the high beams. I am using a meter and checking all 5 pins and am having no luck figuring out what does what. I included a picture below of the relay, it is an omron 2020 micro relay and has 5 pins.

If you look at the pic, pins 86 and 87 always seem to have ground. Whether the highs are on or not. And pins 30 and 85 seem hot all the time, no matter if the lights are on or not. And pin 87a doesn't seem to do anything. I am assuming this is the voltage out to the lights, and would be hot if the relay was charged. I can not do any measuring with the relay in, they are kinda recessed in to the fuse box and I can't get my probes in there. anyone have any guesses what I am doing wrong? Thanks,

I just tried it, and no go. I soldered the diode from pin 85 to pin 85 with the stripe on the high's side. I had these diodes on hand that I used, instead of the ones listed in that other page, so not sure if that is an issue or not. They were 1.5a instead of 1.0a so I think they should have worked fine.

My headlights are actually pretty darn good, but I have done this on 3 or 4 of my other vehicles and thought I would give it a try.

What year van is it? My work vans are chevy express 2500 with chrome package and the low beams stay on when the highs are on. On vans without the chrome package, I believe there is just one bulb for both the high and low beam

Just an update that I figured it out on my '06 express van. Here is how I did it with the diode. Hope it helps someone else.
