Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust Installed With Vids And Pics

I got home today and changed into my garage clothes aka old jeans and a t-shirt then waited for the FedEx truck to arrive. Once he dropped off the package I got to work removing the stock exhaust which literally took all of 5 minutes, it came out really easy with the 6" suspension lift installed. I sprayed some lube in the rubber hangers and the exhaust slipped right out, then it was just the two 15mm nuts holding the flange on. I layed out the new Gibson exhaust and started from the flange back following the instructions which were really simple to understand along with the decent pictures. I got all the way to the back and noticed my last two clamps were different sizes, Gibson had provided me with a 2 1/2" clamp and all the rest were 2 1/4" except for the 3" clamp on the front of the muffler. I called Gibson customer service and left a message explaining the issue then hopped in the car and drove to Autozone and purchased a $3.00 exhaust clamp in the 2 1/4" size. On the way back from Autozone I got a call from "Dan" with Gibson Exhaust and told him the situation and that I was on my way back from buying a new clamp and he said a new clamp and some decals would be in the mail anyways. Other than one clamp being wrong the Install so far was going flawless and fast. The only thing that took some time was mocking up the last two tail pipes behind the tires and marking them to length, some may think it's a pain in the ass but I didn't mind because it give the customer the choice of how far they want the tips to stick out. I used a sawzall to cut the pipes then filed the edges and reinstalled them on the truck then installed the stainless steel tips with the Gibson logo facing up and then I was done.

I am very happy with the overall sound and quality of the Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust, it's louder than the stock exhaust but not to excessive. I wouldn't mind if it was actually a little louder but for what I was going for it sounds great. I drove the truck down the road around the block and it sounds good with hardly any moan/drone sound, it's definitely louder a low RPM's than at full throttle. I didn't notice if I was in 4cyl mode or not but the exhaust tone didn't change during my drive so I wouldn't have noticed if it went into 4cyl mode or not. I wanted an exhaust that was louder than stock and would work without having to remove the spare tire and wanted to stay around $400-$500 so the Gibson exhaust worked out great for me. I would recommend the Gibson exhaust system in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a nice sounding exhaust system that won't break the bank!!!

your truck sound great. Thanks for the write up too. I couldn't decide between the MBRP and the Gibson but now I am certainly going to get the Gibson. One question is the muffler straight throw?

It'll keep sounding a little bit better too after a couple hundred miles.

First vid on there it sounds higher tonned then the other ones.. Sounds good though, makes me want the system back from my old truck that I had from them (single side).

I'm keeping the badging on, I think it looks naked without them. oh and daddy the mirrors are boxed up and not going anywhere.

dirty*south the Gibson muffler is chambered similar to a Flowmaster and does not have any packing so you'll never have to worry about packing blowing out. I had a dual outlet Superflow muffler on my 94' Silverado and it was so loud that it got annoying after awhile. This system sounds good and worked perfect for my application, could be a bit louder but if it's true that it will get louder after a few hundred miles then I probably wouldn't want it any louder right now. The exhaust tone may change a little once I install a cold air intake also according to Gibsons Instructions which say "any aftermarket parts may change the sound of your new Gibson exhaust."

The intake will change the tone a little bit, make it a little deeper actually. That's what I noticed when I put mine on. Even getting my truck tuned helped with that.

Do you still like the exhaust? Did it get any louder yet? Can you still not hear it change into 4cl mode too. Autoanything.com is offering 10% off today making it $365 shipped. I just wanted to make sure you still like it.

I love it, the exhaust does seem to be getting a bit deeper although it may just be me zoning in on the sound. I find myself gassing it just to listen to the rumble. I say go for it!!!

Matt - Thanks for the heads up on the 10% off plus free shipping, when I got my exhaust it was $25 off plus free shipping so I ended up paying $379. I called AutoAnything and the guy I talked to told me to call customer service tomarrow and said they will refund me the difference plus $1 because they guarantee the lowest price for 1 year from the date of purchase. Thats another $17 back in my pocket so as far as I'm concerned AutoAnything Rocks!!!

Did you have to remove the Spare tire to install your Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust. I have a stock 2007 Silverado Z71(4X4). I just wanna make sure that before I buy the exhaust I can leave my spare, it showed a note by that exhaust that said spare would have to be removed. I don't believe it has to. What size is your spare 16in? 17 in? I don't have a lift but i don't think that should make a difference. It appeared that yours was a 4 wheel drive as well. Thank you

No you don't have to remove the spare. I think all the GMT900 come with 17in spares too.

I just put the Gibson Extreme Duals on My 07 NBS. It sounds great, I saw in the directions that it said to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the computer, i did not do this, is it really necessary? Thank you, I like the sound, its deep but not too deep.
