I had this happen to my '14 Silverado with 89000 miles on it a couple of weeks ago. I shut it off in my garage, but the fans kept running, so I undid the negative battery cable and the fans stopped. I watched a few YouTube videos which recommended changing both the thermostat and temperature sensor. I thought about doing the job myself, but I was sitting my granddaughter who couldn't walk due to an ankle injury. A local shop wanted nearly $800 to do the job. That sounded ridiculous so I followed the videos and did it myself in just an hour with cleaning up and wiping down the tools. I did disconnect the battery's negative cable before starting the job. The truck runs perfectly now!

Stuff does indeed get under there. I went to the post office with three envelopes lying in the area in front of the cup holders. When I got there, there only two envelopes were in that tray.. The envelope with my check for this years insurance premium for the truck was gone. I ended up putting a stop payment on that check and writing another after searching everywhere for that envelope. Nearly two months later I removed the cup holders and there was the missing insurance payment under the cup holders!.

All I need is my I phone 6. Not for calling roadside assistance, it takes great pictures of all the places my truck takes me!

Nobody loves the rumble of a V-8 engine as much as I do. Still electric motors are at full power instantly and should give insane acceleration as they are developed in the future. I have a buddy in his 70s. He won't own anything with an automatic transmission and refuses to accept that todays automatics will out perform a stick shift. Personally I think the future is bright. I remember GM 350s making 160 horsepower after govt. restrictions. Prior to that they could be had with 350 h.p. on premium and pretty radical cam timing. Now that little 5.3 or about 325 cu. in. makes 355 on regular gas and idles as smooth as can be.. Necessity is the mother of invention.

I bought my '14 Silverado in November of '13, It's a dreaded early build, August of '13. So far the truck with all the associated LTZ options, has been flawless. My next door neighbor bought a new '13 F 150 with the "acclaimed" Eco Boost. His motor blew and his struck is at a dealer 80 miles away from here. It's been over 3 weeks and though under warranty he's driving a little white loaner car. This is my fourth new Chevy truck, and they have all been great vehicles. No vehicle is going to 100% perfect, they are designed by, and to a degree built by humans. I still think GM manufactures the best quality American vehicles and I won't buy foreign. If it isn't a Chevy get a GMC.

Two sides to that "Stupid Gov't" stuff. Nobody likes being told what to do, myself as much as anyone else but... The government forced the automaker to get better m.p.g. I remember 160 h.p 350s getting 10 m.p.g. Now we have 400 h.p. engines getting 20 m.p.g. The air is cleaner now and the new engines are amazing. I doubt we'd have this without the gov't sticking it's nose in where it wasn't wanted. Necessity it the mother of invention, and the automakers responded to the challenge.

The 5.3 is just screaming "I need a tune!" The 5.3 has 11:1 compression. That's pretty high. Spark has to be retarded a lot to run on 87 octane. That leaves a lot of power untapped. You'd need a tune to really get the benefit of the engines potential and the 93 octane fuel. A flex fuel vehicle will tune itself for E-85. E-85 is over 100 octane in these parts. It's just what the doctor ordered for 11:1 compression and the power gains prove it! Believe it or not I got 20.8 m.p.g. last Saturday cruising the 2 lanes in the Colorado Rockies on E-85. Never saw 6th gear. A lot of M4 going up and down the mountain roads. I normally get 14 in town 18 on the highway.

Glad you got your truck back and it's running fine now. Not to nit pick, but I see no way a valve spring could drop into the cylinder. When a spring breaks the valve drops and the piston will hit the spring. If the retainer or the valve stem breaks the valve will drop into the cylinder and wreak havoc on the piston, cylinder, the rod and crankshaft. I would guess that the spring was laying on the head and visible when the valve cover was removed. Good luck with your truck.

What is the advantage with the 6.2 heads? Just curious since it's a direct injection engine. Ports, combustion chambers???

Pretty handy at the drive through car wash where the dangling strips might catch and pull off a mirror. Never had 'em before but now I see the benefit.

I had some fun with my power folding mirrors. My friend has a Ford Platinum with every imaginable option. I had breakfast with him Sunday. My Silverado was just outside the window where we sat. While he was telling me how he didn't like using the rear camera because he hit his mirror while backing up. I said does yours do this? I hit the lock button on my key fob twice and the mirrors folded in as we watched through the window.. His truck was further away and he couldn't make it do it.

Well one of the character flaws a lot of we Americans have, is that we don't like other people telling us what our vehicles should have. I guess we are just rebellious by nature. Drive safely my Canadian friend.

Is safety the reason, or is it to sell and replace more headlights? Ever notice that motorcycles all run with their headlights on? When the Colorado Motorcycle Dealers Assn. lobbied for a law to mandate motorcycles to run headlights in the daytime I got involved. We found that the accident rate actually increased in some states that enacted such a law. The bill's sponsor actually told the House Committee that she had introduced a bad bill after hearing the facts. She asked them to kill it. They killed the bill. Manufacturers simply wire new bikes to run headlights any time the ignition is on to achieve their goal. Safety??? Is it safer to run headlights in the daytime, or run with one burned out at night because it burned out from being on all day when you didn't need it.
