  1. Hey Harold. Same here this is the only one I have ever had this noise with. The tech agreed its a problem, changed the compressor but doesn't have an answer why it's louder in the dashboard.? Well.........I attempted to try common sense and logic and was ready to try several ideas. Ripping up the dashboard and firewall to add sound insulation was NOT going to be an easy task. This was my logic noticing the a/c lines on my '17. The sound IS just on the inside of where the ac lines go through the firewall. I just don't hear any objectionable sound under the hood that could explain it? I then refer to a guitar string being plucked then you put you finger on it to dull the sound. Also the telephone game with two cups and a sting. Touch that string and no sound on the other side. So having played with cars there is a material called dum dum. Its also called duct sealant. It is for sealing any joints or voids with ac units. It is malleable and the consistency of play doh, but does not harden. It's heavy. So I added a ton of it to the one end where it terminates into the firewall. My theory was to deaden the transmission or vibrations of sound as explained above. Well I have been driving it for days waiting for the sound to come back...........IT WORKED. I am still in shock it was this easy. I figured maybe placebo effect, ect?? Nope, there is no more compressor sound in the dashboard!! I have put recirculate on and off no radio, low fan ac on and off....the sound is gone. I have hated this truck for months over this. Bam 30 minutes under the hood and abot 7 dollars- done! Duct sealant 2lb bar at Home Depot-- for some reason it is in the electrical isle? I used 2- 2lb bars Did it in the am before starting the truck and heating anything up. Good luck
  2. Condensor or ac line. VERY common on early ones. Mine went during the Florida summer in 97 degree heatwave. They were overwhelmed with backorders and had no part. It did take a charge and wasa slow leak, so we maintained the freon till the part became available. You will be able to get the part now.
  3. My service guy said he couldn't hear anything sitting in pasenger seat that sounded abnormal. I demonstrated shutting the A/C on and off and pointed to the noise behind the glove box? He said OK I understand but still thought of it as minor. We got the "really competent" tech to drive the truck with me in passenger seat. He immediatly noticed it, and demonstrated it several times. Said he felt it was a loud, cranky compressor. Truck is brand new! So I felt great and he said definetly needs a new compressor. They replaced it and I did think it was better. After a week or two either it got louder or it was the placebo effect, because it's still there at low speed. Can drive you to drink!! It is the equivalent of the 2 cups and a string- transmission of sound. Because the compressor does not sound bad under the hood with the clutch engaged. BUT that a/c line goes from the compressor directly to the firewall junction and the noise is directly inside at that point. It needed to be deadened and more sound insulation there but obviously that would entail ripping the entire truck apart now!! The older trucks had alot of issues with a/c condensors and a/c lines going bad. When I lifted the hood on this new truck I said oh wow they changed these lines around?? I assume an update to combat the issues......but it has a secondary issue now!!! I have been a GM guy my entire life and have owned alot of new GM cars. This new platform has been a big disappointment into my 4th truck since 2014. They just don't care.
  4. Thanks Brother. I may take you up on that. I do travel up a bit with my daughters Gymnastics meets. Although I do adore my daughters talents hanging out in a convention center with a thousand moms and screaming kids for hours, can be daunting. So the next time I may be near Orlando, a run to the dealer would be a GREAT idea!
  5. My friend just bought a 2018 and the seats are identical to my 2017. It's my understanding that they are changing the seat mid year, so build date will matter for the new seat coming.
  6. Change it out the next oil change. I have used it since 2014 in 4 trucks now with no issues. Also it is the equivalent of the PF63 that my new truck just came with from the factory. We are talking only 7 PSI. This happened with the c6 Zo6 also with the PF48 and then they switched to a better PF48E. They made an improvement after some analysis and going forward will be better, but there are hundreds of thousands of trucks out there NOT blowing up since 2014 with this filter. I actually have a 7045 on the shelf and will use it again till I get the new filter.
  7. I have owned 4 of these newer platform trucks. I am hoping this last one is a long term as some of my past ones. Those LS motors are the BEST motor GM has made. I have seen in excess of 300k with no issues. I still regret getting rid of my 2007 Sierra to get the latest and greatest! Best of luck. The LS motors are worth the repairs!
  8. Thank you. I am hoping for some acknowledgement or TSB to mention to start a higher level complaint. This truck is leaps and bounds better than my 2015 and it's a shame how the seat and this noise are making me hate such a great truck.
  9. Hey Harold, any update or solution.? Mine is driving me crazy .
  10. My '17 is driving me nuts. I dont always want the radio loud to cover this up. Sometimes I just want peace and quiet driving and all I can hear is this whirling from the compressor. Of all the trucks I have had in this platform this is the best one in most all categories! Finally loosened up on the suspension, trans shifts great, fast as hell, but this noise and the terrible seats are ruining this entire truck. Great truck but not for 70K!!
  11. It will. Don't be in a rush but it conforms. I had my whole front of the truck done and then asked him to include doing the door sills. I learned the hard way in the past and never wait to do the protective film. Mine is as you said from bottom of weatherstrip over down the steps. Now I only yell at the kids and my wife not to step on my sill!!! Hate scratched up sills!!! LOL
  12. I bought the rubber bearing cover in the pic above. I found it a very snug fit and was annoying to put on and off. The solution was to cut a slit down one side and it goes on and off easily. Nice clean snug fit but user friendly now.
  13. I had a '14 Silverado, '15 Sierra, '15 Yukon Denali XL, and now this '17 Yukon Denali XL. Never heard it till the '17. Although the '17 is improved in many areas from the previous trucks this noise is unnerving anf very annoying. It ruins the entire experience of owning a nice vehicle. It has to be the lines because the noise is the compressor and the noise is entering the cabin at the junction block on the firewall. I put a stethoscope on the line at several points and near the firewall and do not hear it. But under the theory of the 2 cups and a string transmitting sound, I cannot understand how it is so prevalent near the glove box inside but not heard in the engine compartment. It is definetly the second the compressor cycles on. I bought some dum dum insulating putty which is heavy and dense and will cover the exposed aluminum line near the end at the firewall with the hopes of deadening and transmission of sound. ?? We will see. Between this and the most uncomfortable seat ever, I am ready to cut my losses and go find a very low mileage 2011-2013 Suburban. Comfortable and bulletproof.
  14. Doesnt make a sound under the hood all sounds normal till you are in the truck and the ac kicks on. 8ooo miles. ridiculous
  15. I am having the same exact issue! The new compressor was a slight improvement but the sound is only there when the compressor is on, It is whirling and is like chinese water torture for me in town. At highway speeds other noise drowns it out. But in town at slow speed especially if the radio is not loud, it will drive you to drink!! 4th truck in this platform, problems with all of them, I have about had it with GM's poor design of basic things. This truck is so improved over the others and I am hating it because of this and the lousy uncomfortable seats in a luxury truck!
  16. UPDATE: The tech said the compressor sounded cranky and agreed it was louder than most for a brand new vehicle. Took 3 hours and they had the compressor in stock.(I wonder why??) Big improvement. I can still hear it slightly, but I am listening for it and am sensitive from being tortured for weeks with it. But overall I am happy. I did look at where it comes into the firewall and feel the A/C line is conducting the compressor sound into the cabin as that is right where it is heard the loudest. Its a direct path from the compressor to the firewall. Bad design, but now with a quieter compressor I think I will look into sound insulation for the inside and maybe the outside to deaden it completely. Thanks guys
  17. 2017 Yukon Denali and I have the same issue. 50/50 here too. I unplug it and clear the phone then plug in and it works fine. I do find if I am using and app on the phone then try to make a call it gets confused. Meaning if connected to the truck it doesnt like doing two things which unconnected is not an issue.
  18. Guys, I am hitting the A/C button off and it stops, the fan is still blowing, don't think it's that. I did have that happen on another vehicle and understand your advice. But this changes with engine rpm's not fan speed. I can mask the sound with hitting recirculate which actually just drowns out the sound but it's still there at low rpm's. Thanks for your input
  19. Hey guys, 2017 Yukon Denali 6.2. 7K on her now. This is my 4th truck in this platform Silverado, Sierra, Yukon now this second one. All of them had loud HVAC systems especially on recirculate. But this is the first one with a very annoying sound at low speed local driving. In goes with the rpm of the motor and stops if I shut the A/C off. So I figured sounds like a messed up compressor. But when I go under the hood nothing sounds out of normal. But inside on passenger side it's growling at low rpm's. It's driving me nuts in town driving. Can actually hear it over a low radio. Like I said it sounds like a cycling a/c compressor in an older car. It does not go at the fan speed it seems to be rpm. My service rep already said never heard of such a thing and manager would have to drive in truck and agree it's there. Anyone have this issue or TSB, or resolve it????
  20. Condensor is the known problem. Do a search.
  21. I saw on youtube how to disconnect Onstar for Silverado and Sierra, anyone know how or a link for the 2015-2018 Yukon??? I do not want big brother monitoring my truck.
  22. It infuriates me when the dealer states they can't reproduce the problem. I ask then, do you think I want my brand new truck here to get dinged up for no reason?? The last time I took video and a pic of the floor boards down and showed them. Did the same thing with my seat clicking. No debate heres the video. Tell them to say the right thing to get it done. How do they get paid not to fix things??
  23. Agreed, gets up to temp sooner. Issues from cold start up are NOT an issue. Lubrication is good and Florida cars get high miles with proper maintenance. Who's doing extra oil changes? I do an oil analysis on all my cars and compare with the owners manual. I have several cars and will use BMW as an example. They run very hot plus it's very hot here. On my older one the interval is 15,000 miles. Oil is as good as when the addative package wears out and it reaches a high contamination level. At that point it is useless, and abrasive causing wear. I found that my BMW's oil here in Florida under normal use was used up at 9500 miles, according to my Blackstone oil reports, they recommended an earlier change interval than 9500 with the condition of that oil. But BMW recommends 15K? So sorry I don't trust manufactures to care about my vehicle. They have a general recommendation, and mainly get you through the warranty period. I check for myself and take care of my stuff for the long haul not the warranty. Heat or should I say constant high heat does break down the fluids. Which is the sever recommendation which coincides with my analysis. So I do the earlier recommendation which I found to be right from a proper analysis not my feelings or thoughts, just facts. I will say each car I have is differnt, My wife's VW 1.8 is a 10K change. Her oil comes back good at 10K so that's what I stick with. I tow, with my truck and the heat keep me doing my fluids sooner or at sever. If the OP is not in a sever environment or use then he should do the regular schedule.
  24. I was told the same thing when I moved to Florida. Dealer stated it was a sever environment for any auto doing anything. I can agree. June-August here is ridiculously hot in south Florida and your fluids are constantly being broken down. Truck calls for 0/20w, I got my free oil change it has 5/30w? They said thats what we use here because of the heat, your not in a cold environment. I follow sever here but would not use it depending on what I did with the vehicle and the temps elsewhere.
  25. same here. 2015 Denali XL. Replaced torque converter, replaced stator shaft, flush fluid, 4 reprograms of TCM, new radiator, New thermostat, new condenser, new steering shaft bearings, new seat track after 3 fixes. I am not buying a Ford or Dodge, just traded into a 2017 Denali XL and so far it is nicely improved, shifts fine, but still a little confused at slow speeds, but overall MUCH better than the 1st year 2015!
