Hack for having rear camera on?
morrislee replied to calltrex's topic in Modifications & Accessories
After some testing, this is not very reliable, sometimes it works, most of the time it does not on the road..... need a better option. I am looking into other signals like object detection trigger or maybe Android based command as the infotainment is android based -
Hack for having rear camera on?
morrislee replied to calltrex's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Old post I know, but finally took the time to do this, I can confirm that on my 2020 does behave as described where if it is in drive, button doesnt work. You can, however, use a momentary button to a battery positive and just wire that to the brown 26 pin. Doing so, you will have the ability to flash reverse light any time you want and holding it causes the camera to come on. Almost eveything I wanted it to do except it doesnt stay, you have to hold it, this means the reverse light is on while you hold the button. I hope this helps! -
Comma AI Openpilot on 2024 Silverado
morrislee replied to Red6.2's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Its better asked on the Discord channel, and the answer is no. No one is actively working on global b system. Its essentially the same but the communication messages sent are "signed" so to speak, so it will only work if we know what the signature is. -
Poll: Does your truck have the rear window leak?
morrislee replied to DuRsT's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
PSA, I highly recommend anyone with the rear window leak to inspect your bose amp for any liquid contact. I had to get my Bose Amp replaced on my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 as it was causing some driver speaker not working and creating a thud noise. I had to shell out the repair as I had too many kms (~126,000 kms). I requested to keep the original Bose Amp unit, I found corrosion on the unit and the unit its NOT water tight. The bose amp unit is right behind the rear seat where the water would travel to. I was fortunate enough to have a contact at the dealership that got a staff deal out of the repair, but I still paid about $900 CAD for diag and R&R. The dealership did escalate the case but GM rep was only willing to shell out 25% of the "warranty" rate, which would be more than what I have paid for in the first place. -

Brakes = Backup Camera
morrislee replied to Mike Creel's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Sounds like something has shorted out, if you ever find out what its causing it, I would love to know. Maybe I can make a button to turn the camera on demand. If it is 2021, is it still under base warranty? Would you be able to request the dealer to document what is causing the camera to come up? -

I saw that OEM puddle lights are weak for GMC's, these from aliexpress are soo much cooler! Link to the product: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005016639037.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.145118023wFYsX Snapchat-298134928.mp4 -
HD Surround Vision Camera Problem
morrislee replied to Z06JPB's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Mine was off completely, no idea when it started. I had to bring the vehicle in to the dealer and had a VPCM or something like that replaced. Following is before and after. Not perfect, but a lot better. -
Even without supercruise, my 2020 At4 ACC was all wonky when I used my old winter tires from my 2014, they were just a tiny bit smaller. The tiny amount of the tire size different made ACC uncomfortable to use. While working with OpenPilot (3rd party driver assistance), we ran into issues where we noticed the height could throw the model off, the scaling of the current model is designed for small cars, higher cars suffer from cutting curves too much, the speeds of the car you are following completely off. With these experience, I would expect SuperCruise will not be a good experience or may just not work at all if you changed the height of the vehicle too much. Without access to modifying the parameters, I would say, dont do it.

SuperCruise like OpenPilot System
morrislee replied to morrislee's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
25 minutes usually is ok, but when you do long trips, this thing is amazing. It is something you have to experience to understand the value of it. Another reason why SuperCruise is only available on some highway. OpenPilot will work in heavy traffic as well, takes some effor of keep accelerating and braking over long period of time. I know it can be subjective, but there is no denying that micro adjustments during drive is part of human input. Over time, needing to stay in a fixed position will fatigue. this is a fact, no need for arguments. I now have the freedom to stretch and move my legs around, this is a huge plus. I show up to work energized, not stressed out from slower drivers etc. But, if that is all you took from this write up, then I dont understand why you are browsing the mods or even appreciate the technological advancement. -
Passive keyless entry
morrislee replied to Derek033091's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
pretty sure it is due to the chip shortage so they removed whole bunch of things. my 2020 AT4 has buttons for all four exterior handles. -
If you have long highway commute each day, you will benefit from this! OpenPilot is a Level 2 driver assistance system, it enhances the garbage Lane Keep Assist (LKA) we have in these trucks. The way it currently works is introducing its own steering commands that the factory system accepts to provide minor steering adjustments to keep you in the center of the lane. (Its more than this, but this is the short version) Given that it is using the factory system to provide steering power, it will never exceed the factory allowed safety commands to rip the steering wheel out of our hands. Unlike may other OEM systems that follows the lane lines, this uses human taught driving to provide a more natural behaviour (can be seen that it hugs right on undivided highway for example). This system is similar to SuperCruise in the manner that it monitors the driver visually for any distractions, this means it is a true hands-free experience for majority of your highway driving. Currently, OpenPilot does not control the throttle and braking, it is still handled by the factory ACC system. This is a very reliable setup, but eventually, it will take over gas and brake to do amazing things such as cut-in mitigation. Here is a short video of it in action: I am one of the few first hand users for this system, it has dramatically reduced my driving fatigue for my daily 25 minutes commute. Few of the issues we have is that our vehicles are really tall, we need more driving data of a tall vehicle to "teach" the system to drive even better on this platform. Few of the possible features that is currently possible in the foreseeable future update includes: - Better Adaptive Cruise that slows down earlier and smoother than stock - Automatic Lane Changes without needing to nudge steering wheel (May require blind spot monitor signal implantation to work) - Stop and Go for automatically resuming from a lead car starts moving Things we probably wont see in this platform: - No full self driving (due to steering is not available below 10 km/h) Requirements: - 2020 or 2021 with ACC and LKA options - Comma 3 unit with GM Camera Harness (I believe it is immediately available now through purchasing on their site) and the black harness box - Trim tools (if you like to make things nice and pretty, Torx screw driver set with extended shaft driver to remove the overhead center console to hide the harness) Video explaining what you will need to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwDDid_bLrU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HbNoBLzRwE

Rear Side View Camera Trick
morrislee replied to ArTurf's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I have purchased Tow Ready 20142 7-Way as you have suggested from another post, this works flawless! Do you have a picture, part number or a link to purchase the curt connector you are referring to? I also want to do a switch, but maybe using the signal switch with relay, so they work without needing to flip a switch -
I have heard people without sunroof sometimes can develop a noise when heated up and cools down

It has occurred to me to ask, what cab configuration do you have? Short box? I am suspecting the different box length would result in different mounting position for the prop rod to the plastic rail it sits in
-
Installed my Bakflip MX4 today, anyone had them propped up all the way against the rear window using the gimpy looking prop rods down the highway? They do not look secure enough to stay up the way the promotional instruction videos say

You dont have to get to the headlamps, use the pins at the BCM, you can find the pins you need by looking for the fog light on with highbeam mod, same wires for 2014+, this will save you some time
-
I realized that the adaptive cruise is great for stop and go traffic where I no longer have to worry about the engine shutting off when it auto stops behind a vehicle. I also realized that I dont have the hold the brake as the vehicle is doing it for me, really makes stop and go with stop start actually bearable. Use the auto stop at your own discretion, you keep your foot close to the brake pedal when you are letting the machine do its thing.

Would you mind identifying which pins triggers the vehicle for trailer hookup? -
Rear Side View Camera Trick
morrislee replied to ArTurf's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I am sure this does disable bunch of features too, but I am wondering if there is a better way than leaving something plugged in. Maybe wire of the ground to something will make it think something is connected. -
It will "work" with lots of programming involved according to the community developer using the comma's system to interface with GM's control modules, it is out of reach for anyone that does not have the ability to modify and program ECM or any other OEM modules. I am following the community group for GM, it is doable with vehicles that has only Lane Keep Assist, the openpilot system will take care of the distance and keeping the vehicle in the center of the lane. Having Lane Keep Assist ensures the vehicle has the digital means to be interfaced for steering. I have a 2020 AT4, Adaptive Cruise Control can be turned off, but it actually works really well. I do want to point out, I had my old truck's snow tires on when I first got the 2020 AT4, the Adaptive Cruise Control was acting strange, feels as if it is a little slow to make changes to speed or apply brake. After I changed to 33.5 inch tires, Adaptive Cruise works very well. The vehicle has the ability to stay in the center of the lane, but GM has limit the amount of steering assist it will provide.

AT4 owners, how tall are you?
morrislee replied to FknLeon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I am short, ~170 cm (5'8"???). Moved from a 2014 All-Terrain with 2.25" block and bigger block in the rear with AMP running boards and 33's to 2020 AT4 also with AMP running boards but now running 33.5's. It is bigger, bigger than a slight lifted old body style, but I comfortably get in and out. My house is build in 1970, fits the truck fine with the antenna hitting the top. I have removed the antenna and ran a wire to the passenger pillar seam meeting the windshield instead. Funny how old houses garages are bigger, trucks were smaller, new houses garages are smaller, new trucks are bigger...... go figure
